Read all the oil change threads. Dropped the door covering the filter. Attempted to remove the original FOMOCO filter with a 30 flute type A oil filter socket from OEM part number 25400. It slips but feels tight on the FL500S. What am I doing wrong or is the original filter a smaller diameter?

Well this morning I answered my own question. I went back to removing the FOMOCO filter with a rubber strap wrench and it came off with little effort. The difference in the two filters is the FOMOCO filter has only 15 flutes versus the 30 on the FL500S. I did find starting the new filter a little challenging due to the angle required to install it. After tightening the new filter a soft hand tight the socket had no problem going the extra 3/4 turn.

Yes the factory filter is a bit smaller than the actual MC filter Ford specifies.
However, I think my 17 has MC filter from the factory but I could be wrong.
