What's the difference? Still built on the same platform I assume?

While the platform is the same, the drivetrain is completely different, as is the suspension, brakes and maybe even some slight chassis reinforcement. You can't find any of that in an ST.

It also should be noted that the AWD system is a very unique one, which is able to transfer a large majority of the torque to the back wheels.

Oh, and it comes standard with Brembo's. Can't find either of those things on a Focus of Fiesta ST.

The RS was literally built for Rallying. The ST is built for the street.

Also I was weighing heavily between the Mustang, Focus ST and a Fiesta ST. And I'm probably not the only one that cross shopped the Mustang with those two cars. Yes, they may be econoboxes, but they were built to be decent hot hatches, and they certainly live up to that.

They were both built for economy commuting. The rs has nicer bolt ons.

I'm sure it's a great car but at the end of the day it's still a focus. It just looks like one that's been customized by a teenager. You'll never be able to explain to people how cool your car is because you bought the rs focus. All they'll see is a tricked out focus. If you want a hot hatch why not buy a fiesta st? Those things are fun and cheap.
Because I want AWD+hatch+recaros+great interior

They are hardly economy commuting despite what EcoBoost might suggest! If you want economy commuting, you get a 1L Fiesta. I imagine the ride of an RS won't exactly have the first say in comfort for commuting.

Having come from a Race Red Focus ST with black Shelby checker board stripes I can tell you that the car is invisible on the road in the US, it is a FOCUS to everyone but another ST driver. The RS is going to suffer the same fate but will get less respect because of the tacky looking wing and ugly front facia. It will automatically get tag as a kids car.

The best thing Ford could do for the RS is drop the Focus name altogether. In the two years I had my ST once the name Focus was mentioned everything I said after that fell on deaf ears.

The ST was a great driving car and it put a smile on my face everytime I drove it and I am sure the RS will be even more so but it just won't get the respect it deserves from the general public like a Mustang does.

The Focus ST I owned for 2 years easily got 33-35 mpg on the hiway if you kept it at 70 and 31-32 mpg on my 48 mile round trip suburban commute. Certainly not Prius mileage but as good as a lot of compacts that had over 100 HP less.

I hope you are buying the car for yourself and not because you think it is flashy or you want attention.

As others have said. You're wrong on your statement/assumptions. I am sure the Ford Performance engineers would cringe at your statement "one that looks like it has been customized by a teenager ". That could not be further from the truth.

The Focus RS is what the GT350R is to the GTPP. 2 steps up the ladder as far as overall performance goes.

The hatch market these days is pretty damn big. Huge revenue stream for companies and aftermarket companies. These are going to sell like hot cakes.

If the price is right they will sell like hot cakes. Hopefully just high enough to keep them out of the hands of being some reckless teen's first car. EDIT: Just saw pricing was leaked so yeah, seems like we're a little safe lol

I actually considered waiting for a Focus RS but despite the rumored HP and TQ (at the time), AWD and upgrades to the interior and engine I just couldn't see myself driving something like that day in and day out. It has nothing to do with it being a Focus and all of it having to do with it being a hatchback. Well... ok, maybe the wing had a little to do with it but otherwise it's just not the car for me.
If I wanted a quick 4 door car I'd have gone with an STI or used EVO, not a hatchback.

This thing is gonna be a beast on and off the track but, as was pointed out, this car is marketed toward a totally different crowd. I'll stick to coupes and sports sedans

If I was going back to southern California there would be no question on what car I would be getting. I love hatchbacks and was thinking hard about the Golf R, and while I have always been a VW guy, I think I would prefer the RS to the Golf R. I want this car in blue so bad.

Truly an amazing car, Personally I prefer coupes so the same engine in (for me at least) the much sexier S550 Mustang is what won me over.
I'll be trolling the RS forums for that new turbo to bolt on to my EB as soon as people start modding them or, unfortunately, start wrecking them.
