Can I just say I find it hilarious reading this for one reason and one reason alone.

Boom-bang out comes the Stereotype of an American going "Ugh, its just a Hatchback.

Just because it has a door on its ass doesn't mean its built as a crap car, and as the previous two generations of RS vehicles has shown us, it'll be a potent Sports Car, too.

The RS vehicles have always been able to make even an M3 cry. So do quite a lot of European developed Hot and Hyper hatchbacks. This is a monster of a car. You've seen what people can do with the 2.3L EcoBoost engine in a Mustang, now imagine what the same people can do with the same engine in a much lighter car with an All Wheel Drive system.

Think of the RS as "Just a Hatchback" and you're gonna get burned.

Quick question: why the stigma against hatchbacks in the states?

Since their introduction, they've been synonymous with economy and not performance. Something you drove because you had to not because you wanted to.

I like hatchbacks myself. Traded a Focus ST in on the Mustang.

America has never embraced the small car like Europe has. Americans always want flashy sports cars, big trucks and large SUV's that get 10mpg.

I don't think you read it correctly. DUde's sour that this is going to be superior car to his beloved EB and additionally it's a Focus. That's it. There's plenty of people here that like hatches when it comes to performance ones. There were almost riots when Subaru decided to not do a wagon for '15 model...

I realize what changes were made the 2.3 in the Focus RS and I know Ford did it to differentiate it from the EB Mustang and to remain above the competition. I think it's awesome. The AWD system in this thing is able to transmit a majority of the torque to the rear wheels at any given time. Not to mention the huge Brembo's, and the suspension and aero tweaks. You can't do all of that with an ST. This is leaps and bounds over the ST.

I think that, initially, it also had a lot to do with price/cost. Bigger cars, such as SUVs or Pick-up Trucks tend to be more expensive in Europe - not necessarily the procurement itself but the running cost (e.g. fuel, insurance, tax, etc...).
