Looking at these two lights and still trying to learn what you get from lumens vs candela. Looking at two lights that...

700 lumens/100,00 candela

vs

1,500 lumens/34,000 candela.

Big picture, what can you expect differences between the two?

Higher lumens is more total light.
Candelas is how focused that light is.

750/100000 will be a concentrated beam with more range
1500/34000 will be a broader beam with more overall illumination but much less range

My advice for a decent general purpose flashlight is:

At least 2000 lumens.
High/medium/low settings and adjustable focus.
Rechargeable.

Some small flashlights have incredible power, but heat up fast on high, which causes the lumens to drop to medium or low.

Sooooo, Just bought my first streamlight. TLR-7X. It fits good. A little hoakey getting it set up, but meh. I have probably ~15 SureFire flash and weapon lights and this is most Certainly 2nd place to SureFire in quality and design, beam shape, and light quality. But half the price tho! It works for my backpack gun.

Interesting enough, I reread the original post and I don’t see where/how I led this thread down one path or the other 🤷🏼‍♀️, LOL. My original question applies to either type of light, no? You guys made some inferences! ;)

True.
I suppose, even though a gun light is a flashlight, the word flashlight made me assume handheld and not weapon mounted.
