I got my Ali plates from here: http://www.number1plates.com/

They're pretty indistinguishable from plastic ones and are road legal. Bent to shape and fitted with sticky pads

weirdly I don't have a photo and the Mrs has got the car today but I'll post a pic later on
Did you send them the documents as they request?

Not impressed they take your money and then hold you to ransom to provide proof before posting the plates!

I have all the docs required but it would have been nice if they had explained before i had placed my order.

I just scanned and uploaded an image. Any plate supplier who doesn't ask for this isn't a legal supplier and won't be on the DVLA approved list. Not that anyone seems to check anymore.

Intersting thread this, have never really thought about method for attaching a number plate, but then this will be the first time I've bought a new car.
  • For those of you with plastic plates, did you just stick them straight on to the bumper? Do they sit properly with the bend in the bumper?
  • What's the best method for removing a stuck on plate? Just concerned about marking the paint work.
Thanks.

Fwiw, I'm going for the Alu plates stuck in the normal position in the middle of the bumper. Sorry, but I think the low down position just looks odd and couldn't bring myself to spend ÂŁ100+ on a StoNshow when there's plenty more ways to spend cash!:D

Mine are screwed on and I'm more than happy with them... unless your wanting to take the plates off for shows etc I would just screw them on and be done with it ....

It's just personal preference. I love the ability to easily remove the plate from the front of the car.
Can honestly say I forget to do this however on almost all occasions :D

Mine is just an aluminium plate, stuck on with 3m double sided foam tape....

Did a slight bend in the middle between 2 pieces of wood in the vice.....:)

Mind you I've got something new to replace it with on its way:D

Yes, it's a legal requirement. No biggie though, they give you a link to upload scans and the came back to me within 24hrs to say everything was in order

Edit: Ps - I ordered the double sided pads with the plates and bent the front plate slightly over a piece of copper pipe. Still on after several washes and 2000 miles
