Pic below sort of says it all - rode hard and put away wet.

Just got back from Autobahn Country Club near Joliet, IL where I did my '17s first track-day and I'm really impressed. The only things I did to get ready for the event was to change the oil (was at 1,000 miles) and take a little pressure out of the tires (down to 28 psi).

Everything else was bone-stock, just as delivered from the dealer. I've been doing on-track events since the early '90s and was impressed at just how fast and composed this car was out of the box. I ran with the "advanced" group at this event and there were some seriously fast, race-prepped (i.e., cages, suspension, etc...) cars there. As the car and I are still getting to know each other, I took it somewhat easy and was pleasantly surprised at how the brakes (pads and fluid) held up, as well as the tire grip and wear (stock Sports).

Looking forward to my next outing - Road America, here I come.

Good stuff. Any reason you choose to still run the advanced group with race prepped cars when you know you'd be running a stock car more gently? Any reason you didn't put some trak tape on the front? Is that just mud and dirt, no rock chips?

I hope those are bugs, not chips... can't tell.

Very good. How bad did the paint get beat up?

Yep - I'm a NASA HPDE instructor and have run with these guys before. I wasn't far off their pace (i.e., not many passing me) and I prefer to run with drivers I know and trust, versus the mix that you get in the intermediate groups where some have just moved up from novice and others are pushing a little beyond their abilities - just my experience, your mileage may vary.

Should have said - those are just bugs and my car has paint protection film on the entire nose area, including partial hood, mirrors, rockers, and rear quarters. Won't know how it held up until I give the car a good cleaning, but it's Xpel Ultimate, so I expect it is fine.

Excellent! The first thing I do with the R when it gets here is do a full wrap.

.... and I think I'm going to give up cleaning my wheels - I think they look fine with a thick coating of brownish dust!

All of the hundred mile an hour bug-splats are gone and the Xpel held up great.

Can't recommend it enough if you're going to do track days with your car.

That dust will eat through/dull the finish. Brake dust has ruined my Rays wheels... FYI.

I rarely and I mean rarely cleaned my 350 wheels. Had the car for 1.5 years with several track events and 8k miles. Not one problem with the finish.

Hmm, maybe there's hope then and I just haven't found a wheel cleaner that'll remove track brake pad dust.

I did break down and clean the dust when I washed the car today - I just used one of those terry-cloth covered wheel cleaning tools and it did a great job. Gave them a coat of wax when done and they look like new.... even all the little melted rubber clagg came off!
