I wish there was some technical info on how airflow is affected by both the heat extractor opening and removal of the circular plates. Too bad they didn't have some sort of mesh plates, the big holes show a bit too much of the engine compartment.

Hopefully some aftermarket firm will come out with a pencil beam light that takes up about 70% of the opening and also allows additional airflow if beneficial to performance.
I like the mesh idea...I'm sure we'll get some aftermarket stuff before long.

Doubt it. It leaves a two wide openings with no baffling to catch rain or snow.
Actually, they're very small openings and rain/snow/washing water was never an issue on my 2015 GT even when I added the CAI. If you're really concerned, there are breathable covers for the engine air filter, or if you change to a renewable cloth filter, the oil on the filter sheds water just fine.
