Hi folks

First slightly longer trip approaching 1000km, on my country's shitty roads and already got a rock chip on my bumper.

I envy you guys that have professional protection films. Wondering if it would be a good idea to do it now as probably more chips are ahead.

Do you guys get those problems on your roads?

I have a rock chip before I put PPF on. It's not as bad but I'd do it ASAP.

Repair it before you put on PPF, of course.

Not to delve off topic, but what are the black things by your headlights?

How to repair it? That would mean to paint the whole bumper...

Touch up the chip and get a clear bra. It's worth it!

If you want to turn the damage 100% invisible, then yeah - you would require respraying the bumper.

However, if you are not looking for 100% perfection then why don't you try touching it up using Dr. Colorchip, Chipex or the like? I've heard they are really good to reduce how visible the rock chips are, to the point that only you would know it was there, being visible only if you get close and are looking for it on purpose.

I'm on a very similar situation to yours (yeah, I imported my car too since I'm living out of the US - I'm in Chile) and already got a few mini stone chips, even when my car is really new (only 1300km) and stick to the "3 seconds rule" to leave enough distance between the next car and mine when I'm on the highway - but still, somehow rock chips still happen unfortunately.

So, I ordered a Chipex kit and, as soon as it arrives, I will touch up the stone chips and get some PPF applied to my front bumper.

I mean Dr. Color chip it. It won't look as perfect but it will hide it.

I waited a year before I put PPF on the front, and I am sorry I did wait. Drive through road construction every day has resulted in some dings, even with the PPF installed.
A decent touchup of your chip and film over the area will make it look great to the average person. You knowing it is there will always be an issue every time you wash the car..

Another vote for touch up paint then clear bra. The clear bra will hide imperfections underneath to some degree. It's a huge psychological comfort having PPF and just driving the car without a care in the world.
