Having owned 2 fox 5.0s and 3 SN95s (95 GT, 97 GT, our current Kenne Bell '96 Cobra vert) this is the first time out of the '90s for the wife and I we have had mustangs for the last 16 years. Here are my thoughts after turning 1,000 miles today. This is my new daily driver.
Holy crap is this thing a well sorted car. I know it is heavier than even our blown/system/ragtop '96 4 valve but I think it might be worth it. It is a base model GT but it handles the crappy oil field roads to work like nothing. Wonder how long this suspension will hold up.
I know people give this transmission crap and I would probably prefer the T56 out of my old Camaro but it feels pretty good. I assume with a shifter it will feel really good.
The throttle feels lazy as hell. When I'm in the power band at neutral throttle it should throw me forward and backward when I get on and off the pedal. It's too smooth. It makes it feel too tame. It makes the pedal in our tuned up turbo focus feel downright pissed off. I want to lie about hundred dollar bills on the dash. No can do.
I turned off the traction control with 60 miles on the clock and did a bunch of donuts in a industrial park. I was wondering why it didn't want to smoothly drift. Turns out you have to hold the button for 8 seconds to put it in donut mode? Are they trying to just flat hide it from you? Come on.
Overall I'm super happy with this car but I want to change a few things. Still, what a great car for only $32k. I'm glad they offer a bare bones version of the V8 car. I know the Ecoboost is a great car with great power but I would rather have the motor than more creature comforts and I wasn't going to get one of the decked out premium GTs (would love to have one, don't want to pay for it).
Time for the first oil change.
Cheers,
Jon
