It's about what I expected.

I think a lot of people who are way on the extreme of the enthusiast scale are getting something of a wake up call. This car is a mass production / mass appeal sports coupe and by the sound of it probably one of the better ones on the market BUT that doesn't mean it'll have stratospheric performance of the C7 b/c that just isn't feasible from a budgetary or engineering stand point. A lot of us ( myself included ) allowed ourselves to get whipped into a froth about just how fantastic this car might be b/c of all the 50th Anniversary frenzy and then when the car didn't turn out to be a sound barrier busting, bullet proof golden eagle fighter jet w/ a soft server ice cream dispenser in the glove box we're all a little let down.

In the end the reviews seem to be pretty on par. There's a lot to like, a few things that can probably be improved by the aftermarket for the true hardcore enthusiasts but for the most par the car should acquit itself well on the world stage.

well i think people expected better gas mileage and less weight....if this car had the v8 getting 30mpgs on the highway and 20 city with 200-300 less pounds. or the eb getting closer to 26 city/35highway

Yeah, the weight is sort of a bummer. I keep waiting to hear a clear explanation as what exactly causes this car to be dang near 2 tons but I've not seen anything concise on that yet other than the fact that it's "just kinda big".

Even a manual 6 speed Mazda 3 with the 2.5 engine (measly 185 HP) only gets 35 on the highway and 26 city.

The Audi S3 2.0 turbo has less power/torque than the Ecoboost and is rated at 31 highway / 23 city.

So the Ecoboost engine gets similar mileage to the latest Audi technology and has 6% more power and 8% more torque.

Not a bad job at all on the engine by Ford. The only (slight) disappointment is the 0-60 for the Ecoboost at almost one second slower than the S3 (which has the advantage of a DSG, no manual available).

The thing is they put the car inline with what exists already, they didn't push the boundaries

- IRS
- Bigger brakes
- More standard features
- Improved structural crash safety compliance
- More airbags
- Increased chassis rigidity
- Larger wheels/tires

And remember that the 3,800lb number seen in a couple of these reviews is a GT loaded with every option, including the 401A with its heavy stereo system, I believe.

The chassis itself lost weight. Bottom line is that all the new features that got stacked on top are what caused the weight to increase.

I don't know what people were expecting. You can get a car that is on par with a Boss302 around a track that costs less NEW than a USED Boss302. On top of that, it has a nicer interior, better styling and handles itself on a bumpy road much better.

The car itself exceeds my expectations, but the first impression reviews are about what I thought they would be.

Thanks!

One of the things I noticed early in the day was one of the reviews said the PP / ecoboost / AT6 / Premium car they had pulled nearly 1G on the skid pad and had a 60 - 0 stopping distance w/ in EIGHT FEET of the C7 yet most of the reviewers were all " . . . eh, ho hum. It still doesn't launch as hard as an awd WRX STi ( because somehow in this world 2 = 4 ? ) and we kinda sorta thought we felt a little uncertainty on mid-corner transition at high speeds." People need to understand a lot of the auto journalists regularly get to drive the best the industry has to offer and I'd imagine that can make you a bit jaded or at the very do odd things to your personal base of reference.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised that the three things I highlighted there had to be "adjusted" in order to make the car compliant in other countries and subsequently added weight. I keep saying that real e-ticket is going to be the base eb / MT6 / PP car which effectively eliminates a bunch of doo-dads and could be significantly ( like maybe 150+ lbs ) lighter. I would really love to see some actual corner weights on the "base" cars vs the Premium cars.
