Finding the leak.

Got a new leak...
2015 Mustang GT
So I've been chasing down a leak on the transmission area.

Back story.
Looks like it was coming from the drain plug area. Took off the drain plug and it looks like someone took some silicon put it around the plug. Waited for it to dry a bit. Then put the plug back in. So when I took off the plug you could see the made silicon washer falling apart. Also it looks like that the thread towards the bottom of the plug is missing, or have been warn/stripped out.
It's going to take until Monday to get a replacement plug for the drain. I'm starting to wonder if I should have just ordered two of them. Cause the fill plug looks like its the same type, and it too does not have any type of washer on it. Next... I'm trying to figure out what the top purple bar is. The shifter has been changed before I got the car. And it does look like a Barton shifter linkage. But still trying to track down where the leak is coming from.

Suggestions?

The previous owner strikes again. I found the leak. It would seem that the previous owner had broken the shifting forks and had them repaired. Well the forks were fixed. But the case was cracked it would seem. And they went ahead and used Silicone to seal up the crack. The crack being small enough, seems that the seal job was good, for about 6k miles.

If the Warranty repair was completed at a Ford Dealership - your local Dealer (if not in same area as the repairing Service Center) should be able to pull the complete repair history via OASIS.

They will see the forks were repaired and I would ask them if they will cover the repair of the trans (or replacement of it) since that crack was overlooked on the initial repair.

Now, just so you know too - the original powertrain warranty is 5/60; the trans would be repairable under warranty even if the 3/36 was done or expired. What I do not know is, would this still be repaired under the 5/60 for any subsequent owner AFTER the Original owner.

The other thing too is now being the 2nd Owner, the Dealership could say “the crack wasn’t there on initial repair inspection and was not a result of the original owner”....

In any case, go to your Dealership and see what happens - it’s worth a try.

They didn't overlook anything, someone dropped the transmission, cracked the case, and tried to hide the damage with silicone. It's most likely that silicone was applied by the tech that replaced the shift forks. That would put the replacement transmission case on the dealer doing who did the job. Luckily a MT82 is pretty cheap to replace.

What I’m saying is, Ashtar is now the Owner of a used S550; he didn’t have the initial repair done on the trans. It’s unfortunate for him, but my reply was that it’s going to be hard for HIM to get fair resolution IF the Dealership says “the crack or case damage wasn’t done by our repair efforts, it was not present during the initial repair of the forks, otherwise it would have been documented and fixed then”....

It’s obvious the case is damaged, but for a “used” car Owner to try and get a Ford Dealership to fess up to their Tech (or Service Center) damaging that trans case during the initial repair effort - is going to be difficult.

Maybe the Dealership will assist him with a warranty repair as a good will gesture... or maybe they won’t...

Maybe some forensics is needed, because perhaps the Tech who did the fork repair left his fingerprints in the silicone job used to cover up the case damage.... LOL

Hey Everyone,

Sounds like it's time to give a bit more info. The Mustang is a 2015, with a Hellion twin turbo kit. Without any timing added it puts out about 650 @ 10lbs boost, and 720 @18 lbs. boost. The shifting forks were fixed by whom, I do not know. Also, the previous owner did put it through its paces. There were a few posts of the car on youtube. And when I bought the car from a dealer (not a ford dealer) it came with an AS IS Warranty

So, taking it to a Ford dealer and asking them to fix the cracked case. Don't think its going to happen. So, what am I going to do. Well I did visited AMP Performance. They are a local company here in Phx. Got a Tremec T56 XL, and all the fixings to handle the 800+ hp with timing added.
Break in for the clutch is not going to be fun. 500 miles of city driving. /sigh.

But more import, I just wanted to share my experience regarding Leaks... Trying to chase them down and what is causing them.
