I've been getting that new/new to me car itch. I'm thinking of something that may be a little more comfortable in the daily rush hour commute, seats 4, maybe AWD, but still Fun to drive when the roads open or I get a nice backroad.

The problems that I've been running into:
Many cars, at any price under 65K, don't have easy entry, and/or cooled seats. In this day/age I don't feel like that should be hard to find.
Nothing meeting the items i listed above are as quick and fun in the twisties. Most cars I've tried are nearly as quick, OR they handle better, nothing feels on par in both areas.

The only vehicles that meet the most criteria are the M340 X-Drive, S4/S5, Golf R and Integra Type-S. Yet all also fall short in some areas. It's like the S550 was just TO good or that cars have been stagnate for the last 5-6 years. I remember going from a 2003 Mach1 to a 2013 Altima and the comfort, MPG and tech made that shitbox feel like a luxury car against the Mach1. It was slower, but it just DESTROYED it in every other aspect. I've been out test-driving cars, and everything feels like it has areas "as good" or just tiny bits better, while also going backwards in other areas that I don't feel like it should be. Like the features I mentioned. Those two things should be STANDARD now in some price ranges IMO when they have been options on Mustangs since at least 8yrs, not sure if they were on the 15-17 cars or not.

Am I over thinking things? There are some nice cars out there, but all that I've looked at seems to require me to give up something and not give me a lot in trade to justify what I'd be giving up. Are there no good competitors for a 2019 GT that have 4 doors that are not like an RS5 or an M2? That is kind of how it feels.

M340 X drive is an excellent choice. B58 engine and ZF 8 speed auto are strong performers and are very reliable.

The M340 is a great car but are very pricey when they need work. Parts prices are crazy and if you get the dealer to do the work be prepared for a shock even if its just an oil change.

I did not find BMW prices for repairs or maintenance appreciably different than my previous 2018 Mustang GT. The Z4 M40i is my fourth BMW. That may differ in the UK, but here, unless you own a Porsche or Land Rover, dealer service and parts cost are similar for just about all brands.

Sounds like a Tesla Model 3 Performance is worth a test drive.

If you do oil changes yourself, BMW is a great option. I am on my 2nd 5th Gen Supra (BMW engine / trans.) and if I needed 4 doors the BMW would be top of my list in that price range.

They are a LOT faster on the street than ICE options. I also think it's great that there's a new good sized American car company as an option. I prefer to buy American if possible.

EV isn't for me, but I think they are a really good deal if you aren't a manual transmission person.

I've had a similar itch lately, but I just like the Camaro too much. The 6.2 is really good on the street. For me, the LT1 is a great daily option. Quite a bit cheaper than an SS, but with the same engine and transmission. SS is better if you're going to track it, though.

I've thought about a Porsche, but I don't like the lack of torque from smaller engines, and I don't care that much about interior quality to want to pay a bunch more. Plus, I think the larger cars are safer on the road. Challengers cost quite a bit more, especially since I'd want to go Hellcat widebody. The 6.4 power to weight isn't as good as the Camaro. I've always liked the idea of an E90 M3, but the engine displacement/power just isn't quite there for me.

I think you should try some version of Camaro.

A Tesla Model 3 performance was a lot more attractive before Musk made the brand toxic.
no dog in that fight, but musk didn’t make anything toxic, politics and/or social media did…drive thru Burbank/Hollywood where I work, and you’ll see what I mean 🥸
