Been on and off the forums over the last 2+ years since buying my 16 GT. I read a lot more than post, haha, but the wealth of knowledge here is extraordinary and after reading countless posts for over a year and looking into all the pro's/con's, I've finally made the call. I've been looking for a setup that made good power off the bat (580-620rwhp), has room to grow, is 50-state legal (I live in a CARB state), looked great and from a company that has premier customer service. I explored all options and decided to finally pull the trigger on the Whipple Stage I w/ oversized HE.
I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty much dead set on the Procharger P1X, but as much as I love their setup, its performance, their CS, sound and the ease of install/back to stock compared to PD cars, I just don't particularly care for the look of the 50-state kit. If that wasn't a factor, very likely my choice. I explored the Ford/Roush kits, really love the look, but the front facing design and efficiency of the Whipple over the 2.3 TVS is tough to argue against. Yeah, the Whipple is a little bit more expensive, but the small increase in price I consider to be moot vs the room you get to grow, efficiently. I also looked at the Edelbrock setup, cool as hell, but still what I would consider to be "new" and I favored the proven track record of Whipple. I also think Flight Control is pretty badass, but admittedly know little about it, if I need it or not. I'll be hitting the 1/4 so looking forward to digging into that.
I want to make sure it's clear that this post isn't meant to crap on anyone. All the kits out there are fantastic and many have excellent support, make power now and future, but at the end of the day Whipple was what I felt to be the best all around choice for me and what I want to do. Maybe this post helps others deliberating a similar choice in the future.
All in all I'm very happy with the decision and just wanted to send a big THANK YOU you out to everyone on this forum for all the knowledge dispensed from both average Joe posters as well as all the vendors. Special shout out and thank you to Terry @beefcake for PM'ing with me and hooking me up with info and packaging it up. Looking forward to the new FI phase of Mustang ownership! Now, more reading...
