Hey all,

After about 5 yrs on an alluminator - the bottom end finally crapped out on me.

Just ordered a stage3 FFRE shortblock and looking for some input from folks running this shortblock on their experience and how it has held up...

What exactly broke? How much power were you making?
blew head gasket, found some rust like scoring inside the cylinders from probably the coolant. Plugs 4 and 5 had 0 gap in them. Then saw oil...then saw a small crack in block

I wish there was? Previous to the aluminator I was at 650 rwhp on similar setup and the stock motor ate a bearing going 25 mph...wish I could make this up...

I'm just saying, you didn't hurt a piston or rod, upgrading to a FFRE isn't going to fix anything that isn't broken.

Yea initial thought was to just get the shortblock and transfer the entire bottom end over to the new block. Given the knock I was seeing + lack of gaps in couple of spark plugs led me to believe the knock was potentially piston slap of some sort. didnt want these 'wear' / 'old' items in a brand new block. Given I have intentions of turning it up through a V7 YSI - the rod n pistons would become a weak point as they are rated for ~850 rwhp on the aluminator

This. A better built FFRE block is not going to survive whatever killed your Aluminator unless you address it, it just might take a bit longer. The Aluminator didn't die because of its age or because you went over its capabilities, it died because of some tuning mishap you mentioned happened recently. You can kill a $50,000 all billet engine with shoddy tuning.

Never mentioned a tuning mishap - cars been on the same tune for 5 yrs or so now...this car wasnt babied....only driven to MX and pushed to its capabilities every single time.

Def open to thoughts n ideas on building a bullet proof setup (even tho there is no such thing) so appreciate the feedback and comments

How is a more robust bottom end going to solve a blown head gasket issue? I'm all for a FFRE short block, but we don't see many blown head gaskets on stock motors, even past 750 wheel.

Don't forget head studs in your build
