I felt like the auto was the best of both worlds. It was easy to drive and if I wanted to shift I could use the paddle shifters. I have had some people saying "if I had a mustang I would definitely have a manual." I just shake my head because they are driving minivans and economy sedans.

Automatic is always the best choice for city commute, being in AUS and ordering (still waiting after 8 months and 5 to go!) a GT convertible the choice was made for me as the convertible GT in AUS is auto only.

To be honest I still would order Auto for the convertible in any case as it makes it easy to drive cruise about... I'm also lucky as I have a stick shift Falcon GT with 5.4lt modular v8 to get my "swap cogs" fix when I need it!

Exactly, I was considering an Accord with the CVT before this! Of course if I go back to the sedan option, the Mazda 6 is a much better option for enthusiast driving.

Yes, to the other poster, the V6 seems like the best one for me. Even if I had the money for the V8. I'll almost never use it, and the saved money will pay for so many things for my family, like another cruise vacation! I love those!

Personally I prefer a manual for commuting, specifically in the stop and go traffic of SoCal that I used to commute in. I hate being on the brakes and was able to provide much more manipulation with the manual. It was a lot better after I got rid of the stock Cobra clutch and put a twin disk in it too.

However, I want to do more drag racing with this car so the 6R80 was a no brainer. It can do everything well versus just being preferred in a couple scenarios.

Oddly enough, being from the midwest, I had very few friends with a manual (maybe 1?). Coming from a small family... nope, no manuals. Picked up a v-6 automatic and called it a day. Owned that car for 11 years, sold it, now looking for a new car.

I always had an itch to be in more control.

Which brings us to today. While I have a few buddies with manuals, the cars are not exactly ones you'd learn on. I'm working on finding something to learn on so I can, at least, have the option of picking up whichever car I want.

I taught my wife how to drive manual on my PP. That is a tough one to learn on. Hell, I had a friend that had a Cobra a few years back drive my PP and he was bucking it like a bronco and cursing up a storm. Pretty funny. It doesn't take long to get the hang of it, especially if you are driving it every day.

Mine is a daily driver. Traffic. And modern autos have come a long way. Plus paddle shifters are fun too.

OP's question was not "what should I buy?" or "which is better?" or even "tell me why your MT is so superior." It was "tell me why you chose the AT." OK, I can do that.

1. I was looking at a 75 mile/day commute and needing to drive the car comfortably in traffic.

2. MT82 reports were never encouraging.

3. 6R80 is bombproof and I want to keep the car a long time

4. Paddle shifters sounded cool (no one had seen them yet when I ordered).

Now, the commute is gone and the car is just for play. The paddle shifters are meh, but the Sport mode is excellent. The MT82 is still iffy, and the 6R80 is still bombproof. Every once in a while I wish I had the MT, but I wish I had a Tremec, not an MT82 with a weird, nonlinear clutch, so overall I am fine with my choice.

A white automatic wasn't my first choice but after I test drove it I had no doubts.
White automatics are awesome.

I chose an automatic because I don't particularly like driving manuals and I have a bad left knee which doesn't stand up to much clutch action.

I was also glad to have an automatic after being on vacation in the Houston TX area. The traffic around there is no joke and I would have hated driving a manual around there.

I can drive both but prefer automatic. If your listening to anyone saying an automatic is any less of a car or your less of a driver if you have one. That means your still young, when you get older you could give a flying Fuk what anyone else thinks unless they are paying for your car or your married to them.

The auto in these cars is nice, I would like a bunch more gears for fuel savings but other then that it's a nice/responsive tranny. Yes a dual clutch is the best of both worlds but it would not be a smooth in traffic and would add cost to this set up I'm sure.

I could care less what anyone thinks if you are happy with your choice. What is annoying to me is that an Auto and Manual is not available on every performance level car (yes you Shelby, I would have bought one for sure)

I love that, "If I got your car, I'd have gotten _____"
I get that about engine, color, trim, and also completely different car.
I always smile and say, "Then get one with ____" and they shut up.

I really debated. I still some days would like to do some stick shifting. Overall still glad I got the auto though. Just as justinakajuice said, 90% of the time it's perfect... The othe 10% it'd be cool to bang the gears. I have enjoyed the paddle shifters on some twisties a few times. Agree with others that it would be preferable to have then attached to the column stationary rather than turning with the wheel.
