I had a knee replacement 10 years ago and tried the manual in my `15 EB. I went back to the auto because the replacement knee couldn't deal with shifting.

I will never buy a manual as my daily driver which my mustang is. Stop and go drives me crazy anyhow and doing it with a stick shift makes it worse. Also my girlfriend drives the car and I tried to teach her to drive a stick before and it did not go well.

I hate when others tell me what I should have bought like its really any of their business. Until they make a payment they can shut it.

My gf makes fun of me daily for my 06 that's a automatic. I feel that shame and stigma every time someone looks inside my car as bad ass as it looks from the outside. With that being said the GT350 will be my first ever manual car. I have been practicing on my ff's white '15 GT PP once a week, but prior to a month ago I never knew how to drive stick and I'm sadly 41. No more shame! To each his own though of course :-)

No. This is exactly how I feel, and thank you for writing it out for me.

The very last test drive I took (and there were many variations of the car) was an auto set to Sport+, with WOT to 100mph, and then auto-blipping downshifts while on the brakes. That sealed it for me.

I test drove a Mustang GT with the auto and 3.55 gears. Loved it. Love that auto-blipping too.

I have been grappling with why so many are so sold on the manual. I grew up in the 70s and 80s driving; I know why manuals then. Not so much now. The common reason I hear is the idea of be so involved with what the car is doing. I hear that. I love my manual tranny race car, but again, the autos have come so far, they are the absolute choice for any operating parameter (speed, ease, mileage, safety). I get autos cost more and are more complex, but have never heard that from an manual-o-phile enthusiast as to why the don't do autos. Autos are only going to get better with 8,9 speeds, and dual clutches.

I hold true to the belief that truly being involved with driving a car is through the tires, not the clutch and gears. This would me mainly on the track when approaching limits...something that should not be approached on the street. I get to some manuals are just fun...that's fine. Just stop with the idea that autos suck are aren't "proper" or take away from the purity of driving. This mentally pervades ALL the journalistic outlets in hardcopy and Internet. Ferrari and Porsche get it...their premier fast cars have to have autos. Anyone thinking the can "gear jam" faster that modern autos is selling something.

Oh well, enough ranting. I love them both, I do, but autos are the performance choice. Ford has not gotten that concept yet. At least not with the Mustang. You can bet your @ss the new Ford GT won't have a manual. Why does the Mustang GT not have a performance pack option with an auto? Why does the GT350 not have at auto option at all? Ford??? You listening????

I know....let the bashing begin...;)

You.. wrote... that... perfectly. I'm more afraid of accidentally downshifting into 1st instead of 3rd, or something stupid like that. But yes, you're right about manual drivers never really giving a reason why they hate autos.

I've had many manuals and auto's in the past. My 15 EB was an auto but missed the sound of the v8 so i traded it for a 15 GT. Really love the sound of a manual v8 Mustang with a nice exhaust. My car sounds wicked with the Corsa extreme exhaust. I don't drive in much stop and go traffic but if i did i could deal with it. It's not a deal breaker for me. Manual over auto for me is pure preference nothing more.
