Hey Fellas -

Any of you have any favorite brands of car lifts? Ceiling in my garage is only 10ft. Want to be able to park something underneath it as well - not just to work on.

Thanks in advance.

I just ordered an advantage lift. They have lots of videos going over all the specs and the design. I was very impressed with how beefy everything is and it seems like no corners were cut. the runways are 4.5 inches thick and the design is good for low ceilings. I also got their widening kit that they don't advertise.

this might be a foolish question - but which part of the lift does the widening kit widen?

Widens the runways from 75 to 83 inches 4x4 1/4". I did a lot of research on lifts and advantage really stood out. Take some time and watch all their videos.

This is a home made one that shows how it works. It's 2.5x2.5 3/16"

I recently went through this process and found garagejournal.com to be a great resource. My initial plan was to go with Bendpak, but like many others it is mostly built with Chinese components.

For not much more money I found that you can buy a commercial quality USA built lift. Based on calling a few of these companies, I landed on a Rotary asymmetrical 2 post lift and it’s fantastic.

I’ve had this one for several years. Works great:

With a 9’6” garage ceiling, I’m able to stack 2 Mustangs.
While this sticker shows 110V, mine is 220V.

definitely need the wider runways. I was hoping that is what you would say!

I just finished installing a BendPak HD-9XW. Very happy with it so far. About 4 months for mine to arrive if you plan to order one.

Is this low enough you can drive on without any kind of extra wood or ramp extensions?

Built my garage long ago with trusses so no height problem. Have added four different 4 post lifts through the years. Saw no need to over analyze an item as relatively simple as a lift. It ain’t rocket science, No need to overpay for anything not needed for the application. Mine have different lock designs - never ever a problem over decades of use. I’m an engineer but that’s not a requirement to analyze a lift.

How I wish there had been a place for sale WITH a ten plus foot ceiling in the garage when we grabbed this place...I get so darn envious when I see friends' lifts or, photos on here. What a beauty that would be, Clark.

But, I get by with a little QJ that does the job, sorta.

Congrats to all you lucky bastids. <grinning>
