For the record, these tunes do not retain your factory warranty. What you get is a psuedo-warranty from FRPP. Usually, you have to take the car to a dealer for the "install" of the tune and whatever else comes with it. In terms of it being factory backed, the tune is not designed in-house. I had a Pro-Cal tune on my 2012 GT and it had a myriad of issues that made me uncomfortable running it. I switched to a private tuner and the result was a much better tune. Also, as FRPP needs CAFE approval to sell these, you will not be able to do more advanced mods, like remove cats.

I can see for some this will be a great option. Just know in advance what you are getting.

Mike

That's not what Ford is saying, and not what the article is saying. That may have been true before, but I'll wait to see an official statement and trust what we've been told so far:

"While these settings should be modified only within recommended limits, the resulting performance gains with Ford-tested programs can be impressive," the company said in a statement. "Focus ST owners, for example, can expect up to a 90 lb.-ft. increase in torque - all while maintaining the Ford-backed limited warranty."

I wouldn't count on it. typically the warranty you get is much more limited, and a shorter length than the original. You have to pay a dealer to install the parts, and it doesn't perform as well as some of the aftermarket tunes. But you do retain some warranty, which may be worth it. In either case its best to wait for something official, not from an auto news website with no sources cited (that I could see)

We will see. And, I can assure you it will get stomped by a tune from one of the private tuners.

Mike
I am sure it will and won't argue that in the least.

Of course it will. Ford will play it much safer than any private tuner will on the EB -- and that's not saying that private tuners are providing unsafe tunes. I'm sure they are. Hell, I had a Bama tune on my '07 GT and it knocked .4 seconds off my 1/4 time and had zero problems with it.

But..... if this Ford Racing tune really is fully warranted ( like it appears it will be ), I think it'll sell well. I may even buy it!

Could the long wait be because of proper testing, that the other aftermarkets don't do? Maybe to ensure that those who use the tune won't use the warranty (spend dealership's money)?

I would be happy with the 90lbs the Focus ST is getting...
Once I plan my mods, figure gains vs wear n tear I'll be in a better place to decide which tune makes sense. Only thing good about not having my Mustang delivered yet is I get a longer look at what's going on out there.

I'm waiting specifically to see what is offered by Ford Performance/Racing and to see what the other vendors finally settle in on (and how the cars react after a few months from people that have it). As far as Mods go, I'll probably be petty lightly modded this go around.
