What do you consider big power? Are you talking 600+ hp? 400-500rwhp seems pretty doable and reliable. I guess that's not really big power anymore though. You can make those numbers on NA V8's.

400+ whp is already time to build the motor if you don't want a ticking time bomb. I don't call that affordable or reliable. Hell, 10 years ago I was buying LS1 cars and spending a grand on a cam, long tubes and a tune and putting down 425+whp and the same torque and beating the snot out of it all the time. To get 400whp out of these cars requires significantly more investment and you have to be careful all the time.

Not bagging on it, I love my car but I knew what it was and wasn't when I bought it. For the same outlay that we put into a big turbo, aux fuel, tuning, and other necessities to get 400+ the 5.0 guys slap a blower on and make 700.

Probably not realistically affordable for most people to do a built motor, true. What's unreliable about built motors, though? Are you referring to the potential for things going wrong being higher when you add bigger turbo and auxiliary fuel?

Oh I think you misunderstood me, I was just talking about the expense in general to have a reliable built motor. I'm not saying these cars can't be fast and make good power, just saying that as a platform it isn't as cost effective as some other ones. Although used pulls are getting pretty cheap, saw one on craigslist the other day for $3400 full accessories and everything. I may have to grab one to have built if they come down a little more.

I would also be curious what power producing mods we could get away with on the ford tune, I know the downpipe is a no go but what else is there really?

As far as I know, the downpipe is where you lose power in the exhaust. I don't think there are any mods that can add power to the Ford tune. I think all you can do to go faster is add 3.73 gears on the Ford tune.

Yeah, I have actually considered gears, the manual transmission is definitely geared for a V8. I'd probably try and get a torsen out of a PP GT with the 3.73's if I changed mine but I doubt I ever would.

I'm a bit fuzzy on that, is the MT-82 in the EB the same gearing as in the GT?
They're not exactly the same but the gearing on the smaller motors does them no favors. There is no reason why I should be at 2000rpm in 6th gear cruising at highway speeds, the car literally can't make it up a hill without getting deep into boost which is not a good thing at such low RPM.

I also observe better gas mileage by a good chunk running in 5th at 70 vs 6th.

Well I beat a 2014 5.0 already. Gonna hook up my WMI tomorrow which should further the gap. I'd say for 24k, full bolts and WM that's not too bad. I love the car, wish it sounded more Evo but can't have it all I guess

Why can't you run a catless DP on the FP tune? I have one on the stock tune and besides the oil burning that was fixed via UPR DVCC, no issues to speak of.

This is where one of our turbo knowledgeable people would come in and I'm not one. I just remember one of the tuners saying early on that it really should be tuned for an O/R DP. I thought I remembered something about the pressure difference and something to do with the seals? Maybe you're just lucky so far that it hasn't damaged the seals or maybe the DVCC is enough? I know that I don't know enough about it to answer so hopefully someone else does.

Damage what seals?
LOL I don't know, I just said I know nothing about turbos. I'm just trying to remember what was said a couple years ago when someone was talking about a subject I know little about. Some turbo seals?
