I have a 21 Mach 1. 12k miles. Resonator delete and X-pipe. No other mods. 6 speed manual tranny. Run Chevron 91 octane. Today I did an aggressive pull for about 150 yards then backed off and took an off ramp. Heard a very loud backfire from the front end of the car. I thought that I blew a tire. I pulled into a parking lot. Smelled sulfur odor. Car idled smoothly. Reved engine and sounded fine. No knocking under the hood. No oil dripping nor odor of anti-freeze. No over heating no warning lights/check engine - nothing. No prior history of backfiring at all. I drove for an additional 30 minutes. Pulled hard no backfire. Upshift/downshift no issues. All normal. So, my question...what the heck happened to cause the aforementioned backfire?
