I own a 2021 Mach 1 automatic with less than 9k miles on it and I'm having a hard time determining if this exhaust pop I heard is an issue or not. A little context: I was driving home for about 30 minutes on the highway in 90 degree heat in Sport+ with the exhaust set to Track Mode. I stopped at a gas station for no more than 5 minutes. I fire the car up like normal and roll through the parking lot. I rev her a bit, let my foot off the gas, allow her to decelerate as I approach a stop sign, and at the bottom of the rev she lets out a single "pop". Not loud like a gunshot but more like I ran over a ziplock bag (which I actually stopped to see if I did). No visible leaks, no smoke or smell, no alerts on the dash or in the Ford app. I decide to start her up again and hit the highway once more and she seems to be performing like normal. I tried to replicate the pop sound but I was unsuccessful. This is my third Mustang but first with an active exhaust system. Is this typical or was it a Backfire?

Also, I started her up again when I got home (maybe 2-3 minutes after turning her off, so pretty quickly and still hot) and she had kind of what I can only describe as a "soft start". She didn't roar to life like she normally would, even when warmed up. Is this also typical or not and unrelated? I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks!

Any mods on the car? I would check at the dealer if it has the stock ECU tune.

Also, check your spark plugs if you are able to.

She was actually just at Ford early last month to replace my ambient lights. They gave her a thorough inspection and everything came back green. New battery too. No mods.

I have a 2022 Mach 1 w/ TR3160 and my son has a 2022 GT PP1 w/10R80. The OEM tunes seemed different with the GT seeming more "mild mannered" with excellent fuel economy while the Mach 1 seemed more aggressive with it's terrible fuel economy and burbling and popping during shifts and other off-throttle conditions. E85 tunes woke up both cars but the Mach 1 still burbles and pops much more than the GT during off-throttle conditions.

I have the same pop-pop with the exhaust in Track since I bought it new (currently 17K miles) - especially shifting at redline.

Mine pops and gurgles at downshifting sometimes too. Enjoy it!
