Engine Oil w/phase 2 Roush kit

Hello Everyone,

looking through the owners manual of my 2020 GT, the oil recommendation is a 5w-20 or 30 synthetic. The Ford mechanic who installed the supercharger package said to us 5w-50 synthetic. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks.

I stick with 5W-30. If you were road course racing in Arizona in August, the 5W-50 would be a safer choice IMO.

20 or 30 weight is for NA cars.

The blower warranty states to use 5w50. After warranty or whenever you feel like it, you can use whatever you like.

Personally I feel a 0 or 5w40 is a good compromise for street use. On the track definitely the 50 weight.

Thanks. I found out after I posted, that Roush changed their recommendation a couple years back from 5/20-30 to 5/50. I don’t do too much hard driving so I’d probably be fine with a 30, but my engine warranty is with Roush so I’m going to stick with the 50. It’s definitely pricier and annoying that I can’t find it anywhere in the 5 quart jugs!

I've been using 5W50 Motorcraft full synthetic per the Roush manual. I've found the cheapest way to get oil is to buy it from O'Reilly online and use one of their 15% discount coupons you get when you sign up for their rewards program. It has to be a ship to home order, but usually only takes a couple of days. The last case I purchased listed at $8.99/quart and then with the 15% discount it was about $7.64/quart.

Does Roush give a spec to use? Napa puts the Mobil 1 5w50 on sale frequently but it only caries European specs.

Oil weight has little to do with how air is entering the engine. The bearing clearances/cam clearances etc don't care. What they do care about is temp stability that an extra 200whp might deliver but as previously mentioned, its not an all the time situation.

Motorcraft 5w50 usually falls out if grade to 40w based on gt350/boss and other UOA. Most I'd us is a quality 40w but for track events.

Use something that fits 90%of your driving. A quality 5w30 or the like would fit the bill for how most of us drive. Even with trips to the strip.

I'd bet money roush or whipple for that matter are wanting the heavier weight to CYA for guys that beat on the car.

Euro blend is better and lasts longer

5w50 is what it calls for. I run Rotella 5w40 full synthetic and one bottle of ceratec.

For the Gen 2 Roush told me I should be using the oem 5w20 rating. I think he did say they changed it for the Gen 3. However, I read a lot on here where people recommend 5w50 for blown applications. I went with 5w30 since I wasn't sure which advice was right.
weather here can range from 0 degrees to 100 degrees depending on the time of year.
