so you can buy a used Mustang that was rear ended for cheap dollars and then insure it , wait a week and say you got hit when parked and they ll fix it for you??? Must have a lot of honest people in those states.
You are OK with the State invading your privacy then? What do they charge you for the priviledge?

What you describe would be very difficult to pull off. Perhaps under very limited circumstances one might be able to scam the insurance company.

I'm in PA and have bought 35+ cars over my lifetime (ranging from $5k to $75k) and have never had to have any inspected by my insurance company. All had full coverage insurance. I guess this varies widely by state?

I didn t say I was OK with it , I was saying that is the rule I know here in NY. To a lesser extent even a dented fender can be claimed on your insurance if done by the last owner ? Not saying we should do this , I m saying the insurance company has to protect from this sort of thing.
Maybe it depends on insurance company?? I don t know.

I don't think it is such that the state needs to pass laws that infringe on my right to be secure in my possessions without government intrusion, especially on the behalf of insurance company bottom lines.

This sort of thing isn't really a thing. It isn't that easy to defraud insurance companies.

If you bought the car used you need inspection upon signing with them,
if you bought the car new then no inspection. I m in NY and that s how it is here. I ve been with my company so long that they waive my inspection on used car.
Or it s just a cheap a$$ insurance company looking to deny.
Depending on what you hit I d try to do a police report too. (May be too late or just file the self reporting state form).
What do you mean that you hit "something".? Didn t go back and look at least?
Just something that came up and hit the oil pan and popped a hole in it and I didn't want to back up on the LIE.

Wait you own a car and have insurance on it but don't know what coverages you have?

Or have you been paying for full coverage but now they are saying you only have liability?

What does it say on the coverages page of your insurance policy?
I took full coverage

Full coverage you have to have in order to get a loan. They claim they requested that I get the car inspected they sent me a letter a year after I took delivery of the car. If they sent it, it should have been registered mail. They have to give written notification if they are canceling any part of your policy

blame covid, everyone does. I ll bet they suspended inspections during some of those periods .
unless this was pre covid.
FYI. when they send me the letters it s never registered. My way around this is I am a long time customer with an agent who waives inspection because I am an hour plus from inspection place and I tell them if they want to see car come and seee it. they never do.

Oil will splash onto the exhaust. instant smoke.

Followed by a 10qt oil slick, very visable . Begs the question which came first oil slick, blue smoke ?

You said " I was driving and hit something in the road. I immediately had blue smoke coming out the back so I pulled over and shut it down then had it towed to the nearest dealer. I figured no biggie I shut it down right away. "

Bang then blue smoke? No way a hit to an oil pan gonna cause that to happen.
If that's the case it's a warranty claim. In any case I'm not going to be out a whole lot of money. But I believe That blue smoke was from oil hitting the exhaust. What I find hard to believe is that the engine could go so quickly from losing some oil not all the oil just some. For all I know the shop could have run the car with no oil.

Big oil slick after the car was parked for 1/2 an hour.

That does sound fishy. These are big engines with A LOT of surface area for oil to cling to on the inside. Especially since oil drained out after the car was parked.

Oh a small hole if it took that long for 10qts to bleed out. Drain plug runs faster .
