I took mine off a while back. No issues and I actually like the way it looks without the cover better. Saves a couple lbs as well.

The main cover, both valve cover covers, battery cover, and sound tube total 2.5 lbs. I thought it felt like more.

The GT350/R doesn't have an engine cover so it should be fine.

Honestly I'd love to hear some engineers answer it, maybe there is some purpose. My guess is there really isn't MUCH of one if any. I would wager for the most part they just use em to pretty up engine bays for customers who wouldn't know what to look at under there any way and for cars with little engines that would just look sad without a big honking cover over it. I don't see how they help the aesthetics of Ford 5L v8 or any of the large GM LS engines.

How does the heat escape through all those covers, especially the first mercedes! It is literally sealing the engine bay without the hood! You really don't need a hood for that one particular :headbonk:

It's entirely cosmetic, I can say that with 100% certainty and knowledge.

Makes sense, just figured maybe on some fancy six figure european car it might actually do something. But yea my default thought is that it's just to look cool, especially on some econobox piece of crap where without the cover you'd wonder where the engine is. :lol:

Most performance cars have hood vents to keep the heat and air extracted from the engine bay and aid the aerodynamics of the car. So even though the hood is closed, the heat and air escapes from those vents.
