I took it pretty easy the first 500 mi. Varied speeds...early shifts, just like manual says. Yesterday at 560 mi I opened it up. Not quite redline but i pushed it from 0-90 pretty quickly before backing off of it. I couldnt wait any longer!

Drive it like its meant to be driven, high RPM is fine, vary RPM, no WOT however.

cars around the world are test driven at WOT back to back and are fine. I doubt everyone on here that says absolutely do not go WOT were the first person to drive their car...
I've always gone for the somewhat aggressive break in but maybe I took that from the motorcycle world

Think you are not supposed to go WOT during first 1000 miles or so? And 'never' in 6th (and maybe 5th) at low rpm and under load?

Depends. My Ducati says keeping the engine below 6000 rpm (11000 red line) for the first 600 miles. Change oil, then below 7000 until 1500 miles.

It is a funny topic. Since, most people never keep their car long enough to see the long term benefits of a so called "break-in".
