Trying to help someone out here. I'm not near the car but he sent a video/picture and explained there is a spark/electricity under the hood. Car runs fine with no codes but has this electricity.

To me it looks like maybe ignition coil? But it's hard to tell from the angle of the video. Will try to look at it tomorrow but wanted to see what yalls thoughts were.

I don't think so..but it's hard for me to tell from the video and they aren't near the car currently either. Just trying to brainstorm ideas of what it could be before I look at it tomorrow

That looks like the ignition coil is arcing to one of the hard lines on the DI pump. I wouldn't run that car like that at all. That's a major issue getting ready to happen.

Def an ignition coil. Thats the only thing under the hood that works with voltages high enough to arc like that.
That's what I'm thinking too, and it looks to be coming from that one in the back corner. Hopefully see tomorrow

Think it just needs a new coil then? Or something else?

It seems likely that some insulated part of the coil would have to break for the electricity to go that way, but...

First, I'd push down on that ignition coil and make sure it's seated properly on the spark plug.
I would also get the spark plug out, and see if it's dry.

The time I had electricity going the wrong way, it was in a 160,000 mile Nissan with a leaky valve cover gasket. At least 3 of the spark plugs were submerged in motor oil, and each of them had a burn mark where the electricity had decided the path of least resistance was out the ceramic and into the metal valve cover.

(In that case, the danger was less about fire, and more about stalling in traffic. )

I would think that there must be a break in the insulation or the epoxy at the top of the pack. I would start by replacing that one and see if it fixes the issue. I can't think of what else would do that.

Change that #4 coil with the #1 position. If the arcing stops, or follows to the number 1 position, you know its the coil

You most definitely do not want arcing happening right by the DI pump.

Critters... you can see where it nibbled the corner of that foam cover too. I had a feeling that's what it would be when I watched that video yesterday.

What a shame that the wire wasn't energized when the evil deed occurred. Apparently the critter has lived to see another day and chew another wire.

Agreed. But glad it's an easy fix and nothing worse happened. Bright side.
