Was curious at what temp the fan kicks on, couldn't find a good answer. Asking because my Bullitt seems to run hotter than I would like. I'm in FL and seeing ECT's get up to 205 - 210 and CHT's up to 215. I hit these temps without A/C running and 80* ambient temps when idling at stop lights and slow traffic. At speed ECT will drop to 185 and CHT to 194. I even drained 1.5 gallons of coolant and replaced it with distilled water and 2 bottles of water wetter which didn't seem to make any difference. If the fan isn't turning on until 200 I'd like to change that to say, 185? I'm tuned with Lund, is this something they could adjust for me?

Edit: Don't know what I was thinking, 185 is way too low for fan to come on.

Is 'ECT' coolant temperature? If yes, how the heck do you know the digital number? I couldn't get my digital dash to show digital coolant temp with the F-150 FORScan code. Thank you.

From the factory they are set to come on at 212.

Ive heard Lund sets them at 190

I'd get a 170 T stat

Thats what I have and my fans are set to 190, my CHT never gets above 200

These are the stock figures, the target ECT is 212*.

However, given that you are tuned it could be that your values are completely different...you would have to talk to Lund about it.

Couple things though:

1) those temps you are experiencing are not bad, not sure why you're so keen on reducing them

2) simply adjusting fans to come on earlier won't do much, you really need a lower temp thermostat to keep idle and cruise temps lower

ECT is derived, however there is a CHT sensor that is displayed numerically in the gauge section of your dashboard.

I have CHT, but WHERE did you get the 'derived ECT'? I don't have it on my Bullitt, and would like to see it. Just the bar graph at the lower left of the digital dash (no digital number on top of it, like on my ex-F150). Thank you.

You don't, it's part of the internal ECU calculations but it's not displayed anywhere in the dash.

I have one of the parameters on my Ngauge set to show ECT.

I don't have Forscan, but is that a screenshot from Forscan?

Think I'll give Lund a call and see if they can change it to 40% at 200* and 100% at 212*. I would prefer to keep the factory 180 Tstat if those speeds/temps will work with it.

Thanks. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something with the settings or FORScan.

Is the stock thermostat 190 or 195? Just curious. And if you set the temp where the fans run at 100% at only 212-deg, they'd be operating basically non-stop in summer, even on the highway if hot enough (like in TX). That wouldn't be good. The engine is designed to operate at the factory settings. If you burn the fan (only a matter of time that low), and the engine overheats, it'd be worse than just leaving things alone, but to each his own.

The 170 T stat really works well. ECT's run right around 185

When cruising at anything higher than 40 mph my ECT stays at an average of 185. That's 27* difference to get to 212* so I don't think the fan will be running 100% at highway speeds. I'm told the stock Tstat is 180. Today at 74* ambient with car fully warmed up and seeing ECT temp of 183* cruising at 45 mph and then stopping at a red light for approximately 3 minutes the ECT jumped 13* to 197* and would have kept climbing if the light had not turned green. So I know the fan was not running and would not have come on even if triggered to come on at 40% at 200* and 100% at 212*. After reaching 45 mph again it took about another 3 minutes to drop to 185*.
