V8 Fanboy perspective:

The Muscle car fans like me have a concept of what a muscle/pony car should be. One thing that many like me believe is a MUST is a V8 power plant.

You can get torque from high revving motors, but having low end torque at low RPM requires a V8. I have approximately 400 pound feet of torque from my 6.4L Hemi at 3500 RPM. That Q slams you in the seat with just a push of the gas peddle. Everyone is in violent agreement that you can get the same performance from small displacement motors that use forced induction and rev at high RPM. But those cars are not muscle cars.

ECO fanboy:

I suspect many of the new ECO drivers are "Tuner" and "Ricer Fans." (nothing wrong with that--I have owned my share of tuners). The tuner fans love the value that the Eco Stang brings....and you get a great looking body style...vice an ugly Rice looking car.

It is the fear of potential "Riceifcation" of the Stang by Eco Tuners that has the Pony fans nervous. There is a thread (Ricer Pact) here established to prevent such a bad thing from happening.

I just hope that the Mustang does not become a "Riced Out" tuner in the future. The potential for "Rice Abuse" is high with Eco Stangs.
This is dumb. You know, in this forum alone I've heard dozens of different definitions of "muscle cars" and "pony cars," some of which include the Ecoboosts and some which do not. Some don't even include GTs! And I've noticed this is based mostly on PERSONAL preference. I.e. if one does not like turbo-4s, then that person will say they are not (insert definition here). And if they do, then it is.

Look, I switched to a V8 over the turbo-4, and I had my reasons. And you know what, I kind of agree that 4-cylinders just don't count as muscle cars (though they can be just as fast). But at least I know this is my PERSONAL opinion, and quite frankly I don't expect anyone to give a sh*t.

And this fear that turbo-4 guys are going to turn into a carbon-copy of the VTEC scene is unfounded man. A lot of people (myself included) tried the Ecoboost on for size because it was a way to get into a Mustang for $7000 less, and still get good HP/TQ numbers with some cheap mods. I suspect most of the Ecoboost buyers are this. There are definitely some 4-banger fans, but most of them are coming from STIs or Focus STs... NOT Hondas.

Your paranoia does not become you. The Mustang world will not become the ricer world -- at least, any more than it already has. As other guys have said in this thread, there were some tasteless Mustang drivers, too. And they will always be with us.

Exhibit A:

Observe the New Edge SN95 being tortured here in this undated photograph. If I recall correctly, there were no "Eco" New Edge 'Stangs. This poor soul has a V6 or V8 under the hood.

Poor, car. May you rest peacefully, rusting in a junk yard.

I think the chances of "Riceifcation" are high when "4 Cylinder Turbos" are part of the mix. Bad elements will abuse if given opportunity.

As far at the definition of muscle cars goes...it changes with time. That doesn't not change the high percentage of muscle car fans who believe in the necessity of a V8.

Doubt it. Most people who are invested in the EB couldn't care less about it being a Mustang. It is a RWD turbo charged coupe. There isn't another one (currently) on the market. These are guys who are buying exactly what they are looking for, me included.

I have finally come to the conclusion that the arguments for and against V8's, Ecoboost's, and V6's are simply centered around maturity level and not much else. Using logic is completely out the window in favor of nearly pure emotion. That is okay but I will not participate in trying to bring any sense to it any longer. From now on I just drive a competent, quick, and fun car and if anyone doesn't like that it is their problem.

I have always believed that anyone can think what they want and I tried to interject logic to bring understanding to the situation but it gets rejected. So, while you bicker and peck at each other trying to get the upper hand I will be off having some driving fun...

You're definitely that. But most of the Ecoboost drivers I've met, both here and in the real world, have been Mustang guys either a) looking for a bargain or b) wanting to try something different or c) just wanted a speedy cruising car, and didn't give a rats ass about the engine, otherwise.

I love having a mustang I can drive and not get beat up at the pump. I wouldn't truly enjoy a gt because paying for gas sucks to me and I'd have to do it way too much in a gt.

Yea it's funny to me when ppl say they get over 20mpg in their GT because I know they must be driving Ms Daisy. Meanwhile I hoon myself to and from work every day and still get 22+ in mixed driving. I have 10,500 miles already so I would be getting raped at the pump in a 5.0

How someone dresses their car is up to them. It doesn't affect the Mustang brand as a whole, or you personally, if someone dresses theirs to the nines and others find it obnoxious. People are different - they like what they like. Some guys/gals like a girl with a natural look. Others like a girl painted up. And others like a girl with enhancements. It's all good. Don't judge - just enjoy the one you have.

I guess I'm prejudice...

I don't like Rice Stangs or Donk Challengers. The Challengers have a Donk community that may be bigger than the Ricestang community.

You know what's funny... I'm getting 22+ mixed driving out of this 5.0. Now... granted, I was getting 26+ out of the Ecoboost driving the same way, but still, I'm impressed that the V8 is doing as well as it is in that department. I honestly thought it'd be in the high teens, instead. Not sure if going to the manual tranny made a difference in that, though.

That's funny since I see people putting stupid wings, fake hood scoops, fake side vents and all kinds of non-functional non-sense on their V8 Mustangs all the time.

Every Mustang I've had (9 and counting) up until my 2015 have been V8s, I never put fake garbage on my cars. "Riceifcation" happens just as easily with a GT...
