Despite owning several mustangs now, I have never been to the forums lol. Figured this would be a great place to learn more and maybe some of you more knowledgeable guys can help me out on a few questions I have.

Just Bought a new 2016 EcoBoost and I'm wanting to try and get a bit more out of it. With it still being stock, what would be the best upgrade first? Kinda stuck with either buying a new intercooler first or intake. Maybe even just buy a tuner first?

Also for the life of me I cant find this answer on google at all. Is the drive shaft the same in both base model and premium?

Intercooler then Tune.

Intake last as it does nothing but looks and sounds cool.

I would heavily recommend our Level 1 Performance Package!

Utilizing our 93 octane performance tuning, you can see peak vs. peak gains up to 70 wheel horsepower over stock, and 97 additional Ft. Lbs of torque, with maximum gains up to a staggering 114hp and 105 Ft. lbs of torque. After that, I would invest in an FMIC. Cooling is a multifaceted problem on a turbo car. You have to cool the block and the turbo system for peak cooling potential. If you really want to crush excess heat you would do CAI, tstat, FMIC AND an upgraded radiator. However, that is a little overkill for a road car.

I would do an intercooler first then a tune. The stock unit is fine for daily driving (while stock), but when you start modifying the car for performance, it's grossly inadequate. After an intercooler, a tune will be your next best mod. It'll transform the car into a completely different experience. I'd recommend Tune+ (Adam) for tuning. He has a lifetime tuning package that's worth its wait in gold. You can have your tune adjusted for any future mods that you decide to do. Once tuned, I'd also recommend a range colder plugs. It's small but good insurance to help safeguard the engine against detonation/pre-ignition.

Generally, the best mod path is as follows:

Intercooler > tune & colder plugs > wastegate > downpipe > cat-back > charge pipes > intake

Some people throw aux fueling, like full e85 or meth, in the mix after the first few bolt-ons have been thrown on the car. Intakes are about worthless for tuned cars and has recently been proven on a live dyno session by Adam. We'll leave that convo for another thread, but just know that an intake is basically just for looks and a noise maker.

This is some great info guys thanks. Be the first time I ever tuned/modded any car of mine. So I'm just trying to learn some of the basics. Never would have thought an intake was half useless. You always see them advertised as "Increases HP by 24" Do Blow off Valves have any great benefits?

Right now the car is governed at 120, if I take that off I'm guessing I should get a better drive shaft? Don't really plan to drive that fast anyway lol.

This car is in far more need of an oil cooler than a radiator upgrade. I have a base with the smaller radiator and have no problems with coolant temps after long high speed Autobahn runs. Oil frequently ends up in the yellow. Most CAIs lose power compared to stock, but the noise is cool. Intercooler is a must on this car, no question, and the stock tune is garbage. Downpipe is good to help fix the top end and a cat back exhaust is also good for noise by itself and a few ponies with a do.

No, only if you upgrade the turbo or want more noise.

No it's not needed

I can respect what you are saying, however there are no roads in the US where someone can travel at those types of sustained speeds. Even in Florida, there are an abundance of police state, county and local. Not to mention all of the wildlife that you could..."meet". If we were talking about a race application I would definitely agree with you. For a road car that is not as lucky to have your roads like you.

Yeah I will never probably never hit over 100, even where I live there is a road that is 10miles long and not a single person to worry about hardly.
But there is deer that love to jump out in front of you lol. How I killed my last mustang. However it would be nice to know that if I ever went over the governors limit of 120 that the drive shaft will hold up lol. Remember hearing the older mustangs had issues going over the governor limit of I think 115?

Intercooler will be my first buy then. Probably get one of the Mishimoto seeing how it simply replaces the stock one.

Might want to do some more research before you go that way.

If you want a stock location replacement, get the CP-e. It performs much better (from what I've seen) and is super good quality. If I'm not mistaken, they have a lifetime warranty on their products too. They were having a sale where they were $500 or around there. Ron@cp-e, can you help him out?
