Ecoboost Engine Blown?

Guys,

Anyone who thinks the dealer cannot tell that the car is tuned is wrong. I went in for a problem and even though I put the car back to the stock tune and did the key cycle thing like 100 times they still seen it when they read my cars ecu. So guys be very careful with how far you are willing to push your car unless you have the money to pay for whatever breaks.

I have no warranty now for the engine because they seen the car was tuned before. So basically I am on my own for the repair. Moral of the story is don't expect ford to replace your engine if it blows or any other part for that matter if it's related to doing mods or tuning. They CAN see if a car was tuned before I'm not saying they will with everyone but they did with mine. And I did everything possible to try to prevent them from seeing it, key cycles and all.

Well said. It keeps being said but people don't seem to listen how it works and people think they know some trick to game the system.

If you want warranty protection use bolt-ons only that can come off and don't require a tune (like a Steeda with the inert of Airraid), and keep your OEM parts to swap back in.

And even then, if you're in the middle of nowhere and need a tow to the dealership you may be SOL with your mods. It's always a risk.

This guy, with a Roush CAI got it from a personal connection to a manager tight with the dealership owner prior to bringing my car in for routine service. I then checked with the service advisor, who did not know of my contact with the manager who confirmed that the CAI was not an issue as it didn't involve a tune or anything else.

Like I said, each dealership is independent and can make independent decisions.

It's basically 50/50 shot or it's grey area with tune or not. Ford policy and like many other manufacturers "if" it's was the cause warranty will be voided. But that's where hugh argument comes in from most people are like CAI even non tune versions can't cause problems. Did it fit right to TB, did clamps get put on right and tighten, did oil from filter screw up mass flow sensor. As a tech seen many many things that owners have done it's like WTF were they thinking.

There is no exact wrong or right on mods it's grey area. Always be hugh fight about them no matter what

Ford service adviser had said that as long as the tune doesn't mess with engine timing, then its fine.

Either way, I'm just going to be patient and wait for the Ford tune which got an updated release date for 1Q 2016.

I am now repeating what other's have said, but it really depends on the dealership and service department.

But, I quoted because of the bolded area. That's what I am doing as well. I want a bit more TQ/HP and can live without pushing to it's max with a Ford sanctioned tune.

that sucks, what is wrong with the car? they prob had to dig pretty deep to find out you tuned it, or maybe not, but they mustve had suspicions for a reason.

It's a Ford Performance tune which is still considered aftermarket by Ford Motor Company for warranty purposes. It will not help if something goes wrong to use the Ford Racing/Performance tune- other than IF Ford Performance offers their own warranty like they ave in the past.

Not true at all. I emailed FR last year and they disagree with your assertion. They said the reason for the delay was testing and certification (emissions, etc.). They said Ford - not Ford Racing (they were very explicit) - would warranty it. Heck, it even made the point of saying that in the initial press release!

While these settings should be modified only within recommended limits, the resulting performance gains with Ford-tested programs can be impressive. Focus ST owners, for example, can expect up to a 90 lb.-ft. increase in torque – all while maintaining the Ford-backed limited warranty.

Ford Racing is developing custom engine calibrations for the all-new Mustang 2.3-liter EcoBoost, with a product expected on the market by the end of 2015.

I'm not sure why people don't get this, since Ford has been very clear in their intentions with this new tuning program. It wasn't previously true - but guess what: Now it is.

Are you sure they actually saw it or did they just get you to admit to it? lol

I mean it's pretty obvious that a car with those mods on it would have been tuned 99% of the time unless someone doesn't mind riding around with a CEL for catless DP

i was assuming he reverted to stock and removed the tune before he went in, especially since he went through all that trouble, cycling the engine 100 times, etc.
