This threads on fire lol and why is there two "OPs"? One who toasted his motor and never came back and one that spun a bearing and got warrantied. Are you guy(s) two of the same? If so you got really lucky this time .
I think the original OP is pretty obvious that there is almost no chance for Ford to warrant the engine due to tune.
The second guy spun a rod and only has a CAI.
Funny I was just having a heated discussion on the other thread about CAI and engine warranty where another guy spun a rod on his V6 due to low oil level.
Always check your engine oil level.

Calling out OKC #1 spot after axle back install.
Probably went out setting that 5.0 0-60.
What tune did you load into your car? SCT Strategy tune?

Issue happened several weeks after I did that 0-60 hit. The tune I had tried was just the stock tune that gets downloaded onto the programmer. It's very mild and like I said before I was only interested to see if it shifted any better in auto. I never liked the car winding out to near max revs when in track mode in auto. Whenever I used the paddle shifters which was pretty much always I'd short shift between 5500-6K, the car was quickest that way.

I've stayed away from updating this thread because I hadn't heard anything back yet. I had no updates to provide and frankly these whole situation has taken a lot out of me.

I was notified today that the engine teardown was completed. They found that piston number #2 exploded all over and caused the holes in the block and oil pan. There are no signs or scoring or any other visible issues with anything else. This piston broke away from the connecting rod and was shattered. They turned the pictures over to Ford and as expected Ford stuck to the "warranty voided because of mods" statement.

I'm now expecting a call from the regional service rep from Ford. At that time I'll explain everything to her and see if there is anything at all Ford will do for me. The dealership is doing everything they can and have given me a very good quote to have the engine replaced. They're willing to eat some labor and sell the parts to me at their cost. They want to make this as right as they can.

I still want someone from Ford to come out and sign off that this failure wasn't due to a defect in the piston or the connecting rod. I'm not going to hold my breath on that though.

Here are all the pictures I took today.

Looks like there is literally nothing but little pieces of the piston left, so it will be really hard to determine if there was a flaw in the piston to begin with.

About all you can do there for possible forensics is have the shop pull all the other pistons and look for any possible flaws/cracks etc. If any of the remaining 3 pistons show a defect, then it's possible it was caused by a defect on the smoked piston.

Yeah it got decimated for sure. I could pay to have the other pistons taken out to verify there is no issues. In the end though a Metallurgist would need to inspect it to really tell I think. This just really sucks and yeah hopefully some people have learned a lesson from this. I'll post again once I hear from the Ford rep.

What I'm saying is it could be worth looking at the other pistons too, because if any of them show any defects, cracks, etc then Ford should inspect them to determine if there was a metallurgy or manufacturing problem. It think that is your only hope.

It only takes a few minutes to un-bolt the connecting rod cap bolts and pop out the piston while it's still connected to the rod.

I will be sure to mention that when talking to the regional rep. Thank you for your help.

Even if the piston is defect, but since you have a tune which exceeds factory tolerated pressure to the piston which causes piston failure. I hardly can see why Ford would want to warrant this because it's pretty cut and dry.
Feel sorry you have to go through this. I mean I always think if its worth it having a little bit better performance but risking problems like this.

Wow Mattrix. When you decide to FUBAR an engine, you really go all out. Sorry this happened, but I can see Ford's side of it as well as yours. Sounds like you have a good dealership willing to work with you.

Bro STFU. You modded your engine. FORD won't and should not pay for your repair. If you are mad, it's your fault. Get over it. Next time don't mod until warranty is over if you ever want FORD to fix something. SERIOUS STFU and grow up you fkn moron
