I've been doing allot of research on Cold Air Intakes. Should I add one? What's wrong with the factory CAI? Where are the stats, screen captures and videos of the before and after the change in CAI without a tune? I see the claims and yet to see definitive proof. The Ecoboost has the same filter as the 5.0 so it should have enough air flow for the 4 banger.

So driving my Convertible Ecoboost (no active shutters) the inlet temperature is usually 4 to 13 degrees higher than the out side temperature that is posted on the sync touch screen. Hmmm. Its cold air intake shouldn't the temperature be about the same? Then it occurred to me, the issue is that the ambient temperature of the engine bay is heat soaking the tubing and filter box. Yes I know the turbo will heat soak the air, the process of compressing the air will also raise the temperature. So factory CAI or aftermarket, I believe the same temp readings would still occur. Isn't the main purpose of the CAI to provide cooler air(with or without a turbo/supercharger), thus delivering denser air to the cylinder.

So here is my solution: Adhere heat shielding to tubing and the filter box to prevent heat soak. Add the performance pack radiator and an oil cooler, and also add a larger intercooler. I may need to change the thermostat so that it can operate at a slightly lower temperature. The thermostatic sandwich plate may also need a 160 F thermostat.

Just curious what everyone else's opinions are. Can anyone display stats on before and after an aftermarket kit without a tune. I don't care what it looks like or what the sound is, good looks and loud sound doesn't mean that it has more horsepower.

I know on my A4, it wasn't really necessary, so I did a K&N and then ripped out the sound proofing, curious how it'll be with this if I do the basics

(Also URP's Dual valve o.c.c. separator asks about the intake size and I'm curious what to do before I make a move on that)

The dual valve catch can replaces the attachment from the air intake to the turbo with a new one to go into the catch can. I myself do not intend to get a cold air intake anytime soon so I just bought it as is. You can always order a new piece afterwards if you getting i bigger CAI.

I have the MAP cai and did notice that the air temp is now always exactly what the outside air temp on my screen is. It made it look alot cleaner in the engine bay also.

I can't remember where I saw this video, but a group of builders/tuners, tested out several different name brand intakes on a car (not ecoboost mustang) but their results yielded overall worse with the aftermarket intakes than the stock one. Most of it was due to heat soak because most of the intakes were metal, but overall there really was. No benefit other than the mean sound they produced that the drivers liked....

I guess I can't really say that for this car but still.... The whole intake thing has been going on for a long time and it has never made such a difference that blew the doors off the car, yet people are still buying them like hot cakes..

Is that wrong please post definitive results as I too will buy one if it really makes a true and significant difference

I didn't do the intake for performance reasons-

I did it to get the bitchin turbo noises from under the hood!

Overall driving enjoyment is more than shaving a tenth in the quarter. I've found that the intake, bov, and muffler delete has put a permanent smile on my face. Plus, I've had many car enthusiasts drooling over the style and sound which feels pretty good.

By itself it would mostly be for sound. I think you see gains with a better intercooler and a tune.

Yea I don't think anyone is buying intakes with the expectation of big performance gains

I just grabbed a JLT because they showed some bump in power on a dyno AND yes it does sound badass.
