Well I’ve been stalking these forums for quite some time and found them quite informative over the last year that I’ve owned my ecoboost. To make a long story short I’ve owned the car for a little under a year and have had a little hiccup with the trans being overfilled but nothing to crazy. Car is never driven in winter as I store it but I did drive it till the snow flied. In September of 2020 I had a misfire in cylinder 3 only when cold. Took it to the dealer and they replaced cylinder 3 coil and plug. Service advisor said that should fix it which it did for a little bit until I stored it. One month ago I go to pull it out of storage after 4 months of sitting with stabil in the tank and it sputtered for a bit until it warmed up. I didn’t think much of it because it had been sitting for so long and chalked it up to bad gas in the line. Flash forward 2 weeks and the temps in the morning are around 40 degrees Fahrenheit. When I would go out and start the vehicle it would misfire for the first minute until it evened out and eventually threw a check engine code after a couple days of doing that. Code was p0300 so I took it to the dealer under warranty and they pulled the plugs and couldn’t find anything, they said it was bad gas from storage even though I had ran two tanks through it already. They give it back to me with orders to run more gas through it. I ran two more tanks through it until it started misfiring really bad when cold and even going into reduced power mode on one occasion. Brought it back Into dealer with p0303 engine code and told the tech that was just replaced 2,000 miles ago. The tech ran a coolant pressure test and found coolant flowing into cylinders two and three. Tech proceeded to pull the head off and found that the block was warped badly but the head gasket and head were fine. I had a shop do the Ford performance tune right after I took it out of storage and was worried that was what did it. The tech said this had to of been happening for some time and that isn’t what caused it. After more digging they found corrosion on the block between cylinders two and three. Ford approved a new short block, new head, new plugs, new water pump, and a new crank pulley. Two weeks later I now have my ecoboost back and it’s running better than ever. My question is how did my block get do badly warped but not the head? What can I do to prevent it? Did the Ford tune cause any more damage?
