Happened across this posting containing audio of both the EB and V8. I think the EB sounds alright.

I am partial to my BOSS 302 with both trackey and side pipe restrictors removed, but for a 4 cylinder it blows away how my old WRX sounded.

That silver and yellow EBs sound completely different to me. Why is that? Do turbos have very different exhaust notes depending on how they're being driven?

I believe the Silver one is a V6 thus sounding different

I thought so too. But on the back of both the silver and the yellow cars is the Pony logo without the vertical bar. That should mean they're both EBs. Unless these cars have the dreaded pre-production, mix-and-match assortment of parts.

The youtube descriptions call the silver one an ecoboost manual while the yellow is an ecoboost automatic. No sound at work so I can't comment on that.

Ecoboost possibilities

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this but I believe the ecoboost will sound very similar Mazdaspeed 3 and 6. The Mazda is a 2.3l direct injected engine just like ecoboost 2.3l. Some youtube videos of the exhaust setup both stock and aftermarket should give you a pretty good idea of what the 15 should sound like.

Mazda have had a 2.3 turbo for a while. It was in the Mazda6 MPS or Mazda Speed6. Must be about 10 years old though. I'm sure the Ecoboost will be new from the ground up. Whether it'll sound similar though, I don't know. I know it has similarities like you say, but i'd think the 1.6 and 2.0 turbo Ecoboost's Ford do now might be more similar. I have a Fiesta ST with the 1.6T and that sounds alright, it's got a nice little thrum to it. I think the 2.0 probably sounds better, so hopefully the 2.3 is better still.

I just hope people don't put fart cans on their EB Mustangs. With the exception of the Subaru boxer motor, every single four cylinder I've heard with a loud exhaust, sounds like it's muffler got torn off by potholes in the trailer park where they lived.
Why is it cool to sound like your car NEEDS a muffler. Why not accent the turbo and INTAKE SOUND instead?
It's very similar to me how Harley V-Twins sound pleasant when enhanced, but try the same thing on a (xyz) brand with a different motor bore, stroke and cylinder angle and the sound is awful.
Please don't do this:

It depends on the style and build of the exhaust. The subaru Boxer sounds the way it does just becuase of unequal length exhaust manifold. I personally think the way SRT-4's sound is probably close to what the mustang will sound like. Which is not a bad thing in my opinion. You could get a nice deep sound with the exhaust and the intake can really make more noise. It just epends. Looks like Youtube will be my friend before I decide to mod.

I think the 2.3 will sound just like 2.0 in the focus given its just a spin off of that motor. Only big changes sound wise would be displacement and compression ratio which are both negligable.

I believe Ford will do the best they can to give the 2.3T a deep gutteral type rumble, with a sophisticated wail as RPM's increase.

I'm still contemplating the possibility of owning a 4 cylinder Mustang.

The '86 SVO was certainly a car I would've been ok with.

For all the complaints I had about my Speed3, it sounded somewhat beastly with a full 3in turboback.

What if Ford badged it the Mustang SVO again or even Mustang SHO.
SHO certainly fits what the car is...Super High Output.
A 4 cylinder 2.3 with 310 HP and 320 Tq? Yup that's SHO.

Yes, I agree. Better than Eco Boost.

Another interesting point is the SVO was the top of the line most expensive Mustang during those years.
