Not sure who posted this tip on here but, thank you, whoever you were. Was searching for an easy way to remove the chrome front pony emblem and replace with the black version. This way took all of 5-10 minutes. I masked off the front with some printer paper just to help catch any shavings. I then took the new emblem and rested it on top of the factory chrome one. Align them as best as you can. Mark the location of the pins. I then began drilling through the emblem at the marked locations. Started with a very small bit, maybe a 3/32 and worked my way up to a 1/4” bit. Carefully only drilling through the face of the emblem. Once through, the pins just fall down the back. Didn’t notice there was a bottom pin by the legs of the horse as the new emblem didn’t have this pin. No biggie because with the top three drilled the bottom one just snapped off anyways. Thanks again to whoever posted this method. Super quick and easy.

Just curious, what emblem did you go with, OEM or other?
Ended up going with ford OEM for the 5.0 emblems and CJ pony parts for the front and rear emblems. The CJ pony parts emblems were identical in color to the Ford OEM 5.0 emblems.

Is the replacement emblem pinned again or adhered to the grille by 3M tape?

This worked perfectly for me! In my case, I started with the pin at the pony's head since it's so easy to find. I managed to drill *exactly* right through the pin on the first try. When you do that, it's easy to just pull out the rest with a panel removal tool and don't need to drill any more holes. I now have a red pony emblem

That is what I did as I could fit my guns between the grill and the loosened radiator. I’m not sure how anyone could do that to break the tabs from behind. I tried and tried. Scratched up my guns. Ended up drilling.

And I really don’t have any “guns”.

Where do the pins end up when they drop down? Can they be retrieved easily? I'm not one to leave bits to rattle around.

Mine just fell down on the pan at the bottom of the bumper. After the first drive the fell out on the road from there as it’s open on the back. You could probably tap up a few times on that bottom pan and watch them fall on the floor from the back.

I agree with the previous advice you received. Also, one of the CJ videos showed them using a magnet to retrieve them since the retaining rings on the back are metal and you can get them that way.

Cool. I have some neodymium magnets well suited for this.
