Well in defense of the 335, you drove a 328i. 2 less cylinders and noticeably slower. The 328 makes at the crank what the 335i puts out at the wheels. Apples to oranges.

As for exterior that's subjective. The new 335i coupe looks waaay better than the e9x 335i coupe. Interior wise they are actually quite nice too. I agree you're gonna spend premium dough to get it and your maintenance costs will be high. It's tough to say bmw is "going to hurt" is branding when the 3 series is consistently picked as a top vehicle year after year.
Yes rental was 328i, test drove the 335i though. interior is basically the same lack of quality and function

I agree that base bmws can have pretty sparse minimalist interiors. You drop a little coin though and they are pretty nice. My buddies 08 isn't much behind my premium gt, and his is definitely nicer than a base from what I've seen.

don't get me wrong, i was almost going to buy the bmw, actually had started negotiating, but waited for mustang and took me all of 10 seconds to decide once i sat in it. if anything, i think ford really did a great job all around and bmw will probably respond to their critics in the near future.

--if you need a 4 dr though, mustang back seat is only good for stuff, not people.

Coming from an 08 e92 to a 15 GT, I can tell you this car is way cooler. As I've said before, I was looking at buying a M235i and chose the 5.0 over that. Would do it again too. You get more car for less. However, the m235i is quick and agile. Too light though and loves to get loose under hard cornering and fast acceleration...

BMWs are handling machines and they are tuned to their potential right out the box. Even my e46 330i FEELS quick despite being a 14.5-15.4 second car. That being said, BMWs including my previous 2... the interiors start falling apart around 80k. What kind of car has a headliner that sags at 80k miles??? BMW.
People buy Mustangs because it's best bang for bucks. $/hp you can't beat it and once the upgraded Turbos and such come out for the EB, it'll smoke the 335i. Stock for stock though, the 335i is a beast. I was going to get one and tried every which way to convince myself to get a certified Pre-owned but could not due to the lack of reliability. The 335i is admitted by BMW forum members to be a very expensive princess to maintain.

We already know tuned, IC, and good tires can get a EB in the high 12s. Best bang for buck.

Also, I'm a little blurry on this but I read somewhere that the 2015 GT handles BETTER than the previous gen Boss 302. If that's the case, maybe the mustang would outhandle the 335i. The Boss 302 is always a top leader at my local track and autocross events. They consistently destroy the supercharged miatas

This is what my buddy says. He loves the power his car makes but says it feels too executive and not sporty enough.

You do know the n54 and 55 have turbo swaps too right? There's swapped 135/335s beating lambos. Heck full bolt on stock turbo n54s have hit the 11s. I do feel the EB has loads of potential and I'm ecstatic it's hitting 12s but it's down 2 cylinders and more than half a liter.

Im eagerly watching the EB and it's progress. As much as I like my big v8 I love turbo motors just as much if not more.

I dont doubt they have turbos for those cars, they pretty much have turbos for every car. It's the cost that was the main point. A tune costs $500-700 and gives you 90 ft lbs of torque on a ecoboost. Anything on a BMW is like 3x more expensive.

The jb4 from burger tuning is about 500 and gives you roughly 100 hp for the tune and intake. None of the predominantly used bmw tunes are 3x that cost. Parts maybe software no.

You need to do more research. Bang for the buck, it is very hard to beat the n54. Less than $1500 in mods and you are almost at 400whp/460wtq.

As noted, at $500 the jb4 gives you about 80whp and 70wtq on a completely stock car. Cobb accessport will give you about the same, but it does cost a bit more at $900. I picked up one used for $500.

Yeah but without upgrades (other then the tune) you can only run about one setting (map) on the tune. So to utilize the others you need tons of upgrades.

It's understandable that swapped turbos on t.hose cars are putting down insane power. But those cars are having so many issues. Misfires, the car going into limp mode etc... The N54 isn't built to handle insane amount of boost or huge turbos. it was designed to handle small turbos with moderate boost.

I'm sure if you stuck a big turbo on a EB it would surprise you with how quick it is. Don't forget about the 4 cylinder sti with a single turbo. You can make that car faster then lambos.....

Thats true but I was kind of talking in general. Cost of maintenance, parts, everything is way more expensive on the bimmer. I had one and while it wasn't a 335i it was still a pain in the ass to make it go fast without paying for it earlier or paying for it later. With an ecoboost, you could technically spend $500 for tune and $800 for tires and you're set for a long time without worry. Hopefully with the new turbos coming out, I"m guessing 400hp/400 tq is not out of reach

There are 3 maps you can use completely stock. Granted one of them is pretty much a 'stock' type map.

It is irrelevant if you need mods (and it is not 'tons' of mods) to use some of the other maps. Fact is, you can get huge power gains on a stock car for $500.

No they aren't. Does every car run issue free? No. But between replacing the spark plugs, coils and vanos solenoids, most issues are cured. These are relatively inexpensive diy projects.

The N54 is a very stout engine and there are many putting down 500+whp with no issues. I think I've heard of only one or 2 going boom and that was due to a bad tune (provided by a forum member).

Regarding the sti, you can make pretty much any car faster than a lambo, but to do it with an sti you are going to be paying big bucks and looking at pretty much a complete rebuild. Heck, the #4 ringland goes bye-bye with the stock tune.

Yes, for sure general maintenance is going to hurt you more as part are definitely more expensive. That said, you spend $500 on a jb4 and new plugs (if you have more than 15-20,000 on them) and you will be making very good power and be problem free - or at least any problems that do occur likely will not be because of the tune but just regular old bmw issues.

I am honestly not sure if there is a better bang for the buck engine than the n54 (even n55) out there. Factory twin turbos and straight 6 go a long way when modding...

I had a 335i with n54. I wouldn't call the 1500 for ignition coils and spark plugs a "cure" even with no tune, at WOT I was having misfires in #4 at least once a week. And thats after replacing all plugs and coils. The fact is they are huge in maintenance. Had the car six months. Went through 3 Hpfp's, had to have turbos replaced, (under warranty) the new ones had waste gate rattle like a SOB, and the DME failed. That car was an absolute nightmare to maintain. It was also a tin of fun to drive, but every time I went WOT I was worried it would put s huge dent in my wallet.
