Fairly simple question.

I’m considering doing an e85 or flex e85 tune (preferably flex tune) My question is I do not believe my local tuners do e85 on the mustangs.

I currently have a dyno tune at around 420rwhp with current mods.

I know generally a “canned” tune nets less than a custom dyno tune. If I were to get a flex tune from let’s say Lund ex... do you guys think I will see my current numbers + e85 boost or do you think I will net around the same assuming my baseline 93 numbers would be lower.

I think you’ll make more power and/or faster with Lund then a local tuner on a dyno. We are talking about basic setups where Lund has tuned exponentially more then any local shop. It’s not the same as some old school “chip” type thing.

Yes you’ll make more power with e85

Flex or E85 will always be more power than 93. Data logging on the street works wonders these days.

Lund is great, you’ll make more power down low on E85 regardless. I’ve datalogged my 93, flex, and E85R tune and looked at all three logs on SCT Livewire to compare timing at the same rpm, you get a lot more timing (you can feel the extra torque it adds) on flex and E85R, the E85R adds more timing below 5,500 rpm than the flex does but they’re equal from there to redline. The 93 tune creeps timing to redline where it peaks about 3-4 degrees below the flex and E85R tune. I love the E85R tune but run the flex now in case my father wants to drive my car while I’m out of town. Since I don’t plan on boosting in the next year or so I’m trying to squeak out all the extra hp I can.

If your local tuner can't do an E85 tune, find another tuner.

Think my main question was I hoping to not break even switching to a kind tune e85 over my current dyno tune.

420rwhp is on the higher side with just a Steeda tune needed Cai and a 3” MF System w/pipe.

I see people claiming around these number or even lower on a e85 flex tune, it’s also possible they are completely stock.

I forgot to answer your question too. I had mine dyno tuned locally after the jlt intake and mine made 411whp. I then added headers and a Lund 93 tune and even though I added headers the car felt noticeably faster and just plain ran better, as if Lund tweaked things my local tuner did not. Kind of hard to explain. Haven’t dynoed yet. Since then I’ve also added the flex tune and Velossa intake in the grill. Dynos all read different too so it’s hard to compare.

The added timing on e is a night and day difference. Plus she will run cooler.

I'm on my quarterly tank of 91 and only halfway through but can't wait to get back on ff. And we don't even have real e85 here its just flex fuel around e54 and still a completely different car.

Agreed. Running the E makes it very different car. It's not just the peak hp. E40/50 should get the max timing, it just wont ramp up like it can on a straight E85 tune. You can definitely feel the difference of the ethanol.
