Hey guys,

Today I went to get my car dynoed and thought about starting a thread specifically for Dynos. If you could include the following info:

Type of engine

Type of Dyno

Wheel Horsepower

Torque

Any mods

I will go first.

v8

Mustang Dyno

360 wheel horsepower

347 Torque

Ford racing Touring CatBack

I am not one with much experience with dyno but I do believe that there is a difference betweem Mustang Dyno and Dynojet. I was told by the shop that the is about an 18% difference in readings between dynos and that Mustang Dynos usually read lower than Dyno Jet. If this holds true (please someone confirm this), that means that I in a Dyno jet, I should be at 424.8 wheel horsepower. Please chime in all you want that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mustang Dyno.webp

If all you have is the FRPP catback then no, you wouldn't be making 424rwhp on any Dyno, including a Dynojet.

Agree with Barrel...However, 360 seems a little low to me.

This is on a Mustang Dyno vs. Dyno jet. Dyno Jet #'s have ranged from 386-396RWHP.

can anyone clarify if there is that big of a difference (18%) like the shop told me? I think I am going to go to another shop. At then end, I was not totally satisfied.

There is a big difference between a mustang dynometer and a dynojet, but not sure what the exact % is. I had my old Evo dyno'd on a mustang dynometer and was in the ball park of 340ish (can't remember exactly). I then went to a dynapak and was around 420ish, 440 after retune.

But as Barrel said with a catback only 420 is too high expectation. I'd expect more in the 390's.

I don't see you mentioning that your tuned? Was this just a dyno run?

I had the same expectation of 390. As for the tune, the vehicle is not tuned yet. I just wanted to get a base dyno prior to doing the Bama tune.

I will be dynoing my car this week on a mustang dyno with 93 I'll keep you updated. 360 doesn't seen that bad to me. My gti dyno'd 233 being stage 2 where most dyno around 250 in a dyno jet if I remember correctly. 18% seems a little much. 10% seems more realistic.

Also remember you dyno'd with 87...that does make a difference

Not totally satisfied with what?

Mustangs do read lower than dynojets. The % difference will vary - 18 does sound high though. In the end it doesn't really matter - while it is fun, it is futile trying to compare dyno numbers to others, unless you are talking about the exact same dyno and ideally on the same day.

You have a baseline, do you mods do another pull on the same dyno and see where you end up.
