do you guys think that the prem over base is worth it only for the drive mods, I don't car about anything else like leather and such
Absolutely and definitively not worthwhile to pay for the Premium Package just to get driving modes, even if you really love those well engineered aluminum toggle switches.

The only 'weather' drive modes you really need, you can access using your right foot.

The other capabilities like 'track mode' and 'sport mode' and changing the steering feel are all available on the base GT.

It's my recommendation to consider spending your money on the Performance Package instead.

It's what sold me on it. Well, it's what drew me to it, look into the options and say "yes, must have premium"

Base GT
---------

Default at every start-up:
- Traction Control On
- Stability Control On

Single tap: "Traction Control Off"
- Traction Control Off
- Stability Control On

Double Tap: "AdvancTrac Sport Mode"
- Traction Control Reduced
- Stability Control Reduced

Press & Hold: "AdvancTrac Off" (e.g. Track Mode)
- Traction Control Off
- Stability Control Off

AdvancTrac helps to maintain control of your vehicle on slippery surfaces using Traction Control and Stability Control by applying brakes to individual wheels and reducing engine power.

Traction control helps to avoid drive wheel spin and loss of traction.

Stability control helps avoid skids and lateral slides.

On a Base GT, this is all completely independent of the steering setting.

Just keep the spare tire issue in mind. It's the reason I didn't get a PP.

Have you read about the issues of running two different size tires on the rear of the PP car? Not a good thing to do. It can destroy the Torsen diff. And the spare won't fit the front.

Oh, I didn't know that. So...to clarify things, the 'track mode' and 'sport mode' on the premium really just shut off / reduce Traction Control and/or Stability Control in conjunction with switching the steering feel from normal/comfort to sport? So basically, on the base GT, you *can* engage the exact same settings as the 'track mode' and 'sport mode' as on the premium just by playing around with the buttons and controls, it just takes longer than a single flip of the aluminum toggle switch.

What about throttle response, does that also change or is that a constant between both base and premium? (I read or heard somewhere that the premium drive modes also affect throttle response for sport/track). Also, I think someone told me once that the steering feel can be set once (say, to Sport) and the car will remember for the next time.

Also, this is the stuff that comes on the premium over the base:

- selectable drive modes
- leather-trimmed front bucket seats (or Recaros, if you choose the Recaro option)
- heated and cooled seats (not available for Recaros)
- dual zone climate control HVAC
- 9 speaker sound system and amplifier
- SYNC with MFT
- Sirius satellite radio
- chrome interior trim pieces
- Aluminum foot pedals
- Ambient Lighting
- Premium door trim
- Illuminated sill plates
- Universal Garage Door Opener
- Heated mirrors with turn signal indicators
- Pony projection lights
- rear diffuser

I don't know exactly what changes in the drive modes on the premium but throttle response (most likely throttle mapping, not an Ecu retune) is definitely different between settings

Is there a way to "permanently" set the steering mode? I hate how it is switched to sport when I select Sport or Track driving mode. Most of the time, I like "comfort" for steering.

I believe you can.
Just keep steering mode in normal and put the gear selector in sport and turn down the traction control.
The modes are like shortcuts.
But why are you using sport or track when you have steering in comfort?

Because I like the throttle response in Sport/Track mode at all times but prefer comfort steering for around town.

It sounds like you have an AT, maybe it works differently for those?

I can understand why Ford makes you select Sport and Track driving modes at startup but I just wish you could set the steering mode and it would stay until you changed it again.

I think you can change the settings anytime you want not just the start up.
Yes I have a sport mode and sport plus on the automatic version.
But I think you can always select sport mode and then change the steering mode back to comfort. I just prefer normal.

I haven't tried track mode yet, but I use Sport+ all the time. It's so much more responsive than Normal mode. And Snow/Wet makes everything so much more sluggish than I expected; it's a weird feeling.
