Drive mode selection not available now. Anyone had this error?

It happened on startup after backing out a bit to get out of parking spot. I was in first gear with clutch depressed, and it did not let me change it, unless I stopped the car, stopped the engine, and restarted it.

I know it is linked to the reverse gear, i.e. it won't let you change drive mode if car is in reverse gear, so I wonder if it's linked to the reverse switch which locked up for some reason ... all cars or most cars have a switch on the gearbox which starts the reverse lights and camera if equipped when you engage reverse...

Wondering if anyone had it ... Thanks !

I had it for about 600 miles (maybe 1/3 start ups) and then it stopped. It has happened to me once in the past 400 miles. very strange, no clue why it suddenly quit doing it.
