Just picked up my base-model EB PP car last night, and I see it doesn't have a dedicated switch for drive modes like the premium I test drove. I was under the impression that ALL PP cars had the drive modes? I know, per the manual, that I can press the TC button to disable TC, press and hold to disable stability control, and I think I can double-tap it to go into sport mode, though I haven't tried it yet.

Does this give me all of the same options available to cars with the dedicated switch? I know the premium I drove had much better throttle response in sport mode, will double-tapping my TC button alter the throttle response in this same way, or is it merely a traction control setting?

Thanks!

I don't think it has the same functionality as the premium switches which have sport, sport+, track and snow mode

That's weird. The Ford website listed the selectable drive modes as a feature of the performance pack, not of the premium trim. Very disappointing.

Or maybe I'm nuts, because I just double checked, and the Ford website didn't say that, my dealer did. Oh well.

Right, it's a premium feature not a PP feature unfortunately. A lesson I learned long ago - a majority of dealer salesmen really don't know what they're talking about.

I've run across a few when buying mustangs in the past that did, but the vast majority have no history with the car and will say whatever it takes to sell the car.

The Perf Pack doesn't have drive modes, but it does have a unique tune from the factory that gives you more aggressive throttle mapping. I just switch boost maps on my COBB tune if I need to lower the power a bit for low-traction situations.

I don't know about the ecoboost but the GT PP base throttle mapping is the same as the non PP base GT...

Edit:
Just realized this thread was regarding the ecoboost and drive modes. Silly me.:headbonk:

Good info, thanks guys. Guess I will have to play with the "sport mode" I do have (double press of TC button) and report back.

Wait a minute. I have a base model too and I never tinkered with it. I thought our cars were always just in "sport mode" if you turn off TC. I really dont know what the difference is. I had a day at the canyons with TC off.

What is this double press of TC?

Sport mode on premium is a huge difference! More aggressive throttle, holds gears longer and downshifts earlier to use engine braking

I definitely can see it being crucial for auto but what about manual? Never saw the need for it but I guess I should've looked into it first.

On the premium I test drove (manual trans) the throttle was much more responsive and easier/quicker to match revs on downshifts than in the normal mode. The manual says that a double-press of the TC-off button puts the car in sport mode as well, but again, it all seems a little murky. Hoping that trick does the same thing for throttle response that the drive mode toggle switch does.

The TC button enables and disables traction control. By pressing and holding the same button enables and disables stability control. Neither have any effect on throttle response like the drive mode.

Traction control allows you to spin your wheels freely.
Stability control allows you to drift and do donuts
