Drive and Passenger Side Windows

My 2003 Infiniti G35, 2007 BMW 3 and my 2009 Challenger all had the...

start to open the door and the window drops a 1/4" or so, close the door and it pop's back up type thingy. No what I mean?

Does any one know if the new Mustang's do that? I did test drive a 14 and just can't remember if it did that.

It does.
Its supposed to make it easier to close the doors (no pressure builds up while the doors swing) while also making for a better seal (to ward off noise/rain).

My 2005 does that. Thats how long Mustang has had it. Its for all frameless windows.

Frameless windows need to drop down when opening and closing so they can fit tightly into the seal.

Well, they don't NEED to. Frameless windows pre-date power windows; I had frameless windows on my 1968 Dodge Charger that didn't drop whilst opening and closing.

Heck, they don't do that on my SN95 convertible either. On my sister's '12MY they do, so as also to better clear how the top fabric wraps over them. My question is this: what happens when either A) the battery is dead, or 2) when the windows are iced up?

This started in the 2005 Mustang, so no you are not going to see this on an SN-95 or older.

The door will open / window will pull out of channel no problem if window is iced up and glass is frozen to the w/s (or battery is dead).

For my 2011, I ended up making a simple tool out of 1/16" thick HDPE plastic that I leave in the car. If windows are froze, I just open the doors and grab this piece of plastic and zip it along between the glass & w/s starting from the back. Once unstuck, glass will then drop like normal and you can then shut door.

If battery is dead, door will close with glass on the outside of the plastic w/s trim. Never done this on my car, but I remember when S197's were new in dealership showrooms sometimes they would have the battery disconnected and I remember seeing pics of cars with the door closed and the glass was on the outside of the plastic trim with supposedly no harm done.
