I had started this thread regarding the shortages of inventory I was seeing in my immediate region (Ford Dealers within a 20mi radius). This was specifically targeting the true Mustangs, not the wannabe EV.

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...ers-to-you-have-any-mustangs-in-stock.160009/

And to my surprise with as many responses coming in, some Dealers have decent Inventory while others are just barren....

It seems like the inventory levels depend on region and demand. Some folks who had responded were kind enough to post some breakouts such as GT, EB, Shelbys and Mach 1's from their findings. Some also stated that what is on the lots may not be desirables as far as As Built features and/or interior/exterior color combos.

Here in San Antonio, there was a total of about 20 new mustangs throughout the dealerships in the city... and that included non-GT cars. I just bought a new 2020 GT a few days ago. I got lucky that one of the other dealerships had the exact same car, but a 21' model. It was easy enough to get them to come down quite a bit(almost $10k), but then again, it was a 2020 model. They tried to play the shortage of material card, but that's tough to do on a 2020 model that had been on the lot for awhile.

can you post specifics?
Sure. MSRP was $50,100. They had a few online incentives that knocked the price down to $47k. The other dealership had a 21' model with the only difference being not having the torsen 3.55 rear end. It was also listed at $47k. I got my dealership down to about $44k before they no longer wanted to negotiate. At that point I just started to walk out with the printed out online sticker for the car at the other dealership. I told them if I could get them down to $44k, I could probably get the other dealership down to $44k, and I might as well go with the newer car. Then they agreed to my price of $40k after a little more minor haggling. This was of course after I had them agree to give me a trade in value of $29k for my 17' XLT F-150. Also with COVID and everything else being all jacked up, Ford was offering some good interest rates.

Perfect storm.
A fun car, and spring, and dealers having an out for why they want msrp. and are getting it. There isn't a chip shortage, there is a oem. just in time ordering , bad planning issue, nothing else.
People bought vehicles while locked down. moving units that the oem's thought they be sitting on. no matter the model.
Bored Americans shop. And shop for vehicles they did.
Soon, you'll start to see those dealer added "market adjustment stickers" on fun weather cars.
I don't blame the dealers for not dealing and telling customers it is msrp, firm. They do this because they know there are enough folks that WILL buy it at full retail .

My 5950X and the punishment it lays on Photoshop/Premiere say otherwise. Good luck getting Windows/x86 apps to run on ARM. Anyone who has to do productivity work, or the gaming you don't care about, is going to have a bad time on a Sandy Bridge processor (to say nothing of a Bulldozer ).
I remember my FX8350, lol. It was actually pretty neat for its time. First actual 8 cores that wasn't a server chip.

Speaking of 5000 series, I've just been able to FINALLY buy a Ryzen 5600X (for MSRP) because they're back in stock. So maybe the storm clouds are finally parting. I don't do anything besides gaming and light use, so as tempting as the big dogs are, I'll save my money for Mustang mods lol

Face it, the just in time ordering system is the issue here.
That and only one source , that had a fire. Moma ever tell ya, not to put all your eggs in one basket?

but, AGAIN, bad planning by the OEM'S.
but CPA'S say inventory is a bad word.
Can't sell what you can't now build.
Smart thing was to have a quarters worth of inventory on hand.
But this just in time farce, does't affect the bean counters when it causes a production line stoppage .
How many dealers are going to fold because of this.
bills still come in, and nothing to sell.

Before you say anything, Reuters is one of the least biased news outlets on the planet, 2nd only to the Associated Press.
BWAHA HA HA HA!

ICU's point was it's all semantics. Ford screwed themselves in their JIT inventory management. It's a "shortage" in the sense that consumer demand for devices has outstripped supply and since supply is inelastic, prices have adjusted. I can't say if TSMC is running at 105% on the reactor (movie reference, can you name it?) but just because Ford says 'Gimme' doesn't mean anyone has product to ship them.

If a vending machine can only emit 1 lollipop per 10 minutes but the baby can suck them down in 3, the baby sure thinks there is a shortage even if there are a thousand more 'pops in the machine and daddy has the money to buy them.

Have you ever considered that something could have more than one root cause? If Cause B is a factor, it does not preclude Cause A. The auto industry releasing their chip allocation was poor foresight for sure, but it's not the only reason for the shutdowns. If they had kept their order, and just sat what shipped in a warehouse (that they don't have), they'd still be in the same boat. Chipmakers are struggling to meet demand. Hoarding chips ahead of production would have just delayed the inevitable.

Also would shed not one single tear for the bloated, anachronism that is the dealership system. Direct sales would lower retail prices and eliminate a lot of the headaches associated with "good" vs. "bad" dealerships. The only reason they still exist is because they pour money into lobbying for their continued existence. If competition has to be blocked at the legislative level, the industry deserves to fail.
Whatever you say.

If the drought doesn't end, two of TSMC's manufacturing sites will go down by August, then we'll all be really screwed, lol.

So many good analogies, it's like story time in here! What happened to the bullies? Did the vending machine ever get fixed? Will Little Jimmy ever get his lollipop??
