If a quality damper wasn't enough then I have a hard time believing Whipple would warranty engines.

that is a good question. Hopefully they don't watch that video, or they may get nervous.
LOL. If Whipple does watch that video they just might change their policy after they change their underwear.

It would be appreciated if you could repeat the test. We did not get a full 360 degree view of the OPG before the drop. There is a mark or small indent that is 4 or 6 spots away from where his thumb was, depending on which way its counted, and that appears to be where the crack showed up.

Okay, what we need to do is get it in the hands of someone on here with a supercharger so he can install it. If it doesn't blow the engine we know it isn't anything to worry about.

Because nothing is ever good enough. Here is a video of a drop where it didn't break it better shows the whole gear.

Not sure what else I can do to prove I didn't rig anything this point... I have nothing, absolutely nothing to gain here.

Just trying to be thorough. Ideally the video would begin by showing the whole OPG without any fingers covering any of the metal. In any case, I would have expected that the OEM OPG could be secured in a vice, and tapped with a hammer and still not crack. Have you tried to pull that cracked OPG apart and break the other side? (wearing safety glasses and gloves).

This is ridiculous, lol. Replace it if you want to ensure it isn't a problem and don't do it if you're confident it won't be AND have the funds to fix it if you're wrong. I was on the fence as I have the money to build a motor if needed but figured for the cost and my unrelenting desire for more power historically, I decided I would go ahead and make sure it doesn't become an issue. The biggest issue here would be someone pushing their budget to the max to get a blower on and then grenading a motor.

BINGO!! Option #1 $600-$1500 for replace now or Option #2 new engine. :)

Post that was deleted from this forum. Straight from a Ford Engineer stating that a good balancer and/OPGs are needed when going above stock.

Hard to read, but it's all I've got.
Post has never been deleted. Maybe locked briefly at one point due to massive response...
Huge thanks to Mike Robins at Ford for supporting us!
Just search for the thread title there in the picture:
"Ford's word on crank damper, OPG, timing components"

There is a contradiction in his posting :

"It is not the oil pump gear material or the heavier oil that breaks the pump

... "Why do Ford Performance and other companies sell oil pumps with steel gears?

"
The steel gears will survive longer in the harsh conditions of uncontrolled torsional vibrations

And after watching the previous video :

We need another video to confirm. Maybe see what it takes to break that cracked OPG completely in two.

I don't see a contradiction. He is emphatically stating it is uncontrolled torsional vibrations that break opgs.

I don't see a contradiction. He is emphatically stating it is uncontrolled torsional vibrations that break opgs.
First he says that its not the material, and then he says the steel gears are stronger and "survive longer"

"the production vibration damper is designed to work within production vehicle RPM and power limit"

So what does this mean?

If you buy headers and a tune, you are now within the realm of "uncontrolled torsional vibrations" and all bets are off?

OPG and crank sprocket is an expensive mod , 10-20% of the costs of a new engine. With no fun factor. Is there some reason that Ford doesn't use the steel gears that he is referring to? Ford's mass produced costs would be minimal. I would rather have the stronger steel gears than the blinkers on my hood.
