Hey guys, the two things I love in life are my ruby red GT mustang and my dog Buddy. I’ve had my car for a year and still haven’t figured out a way to make my car dog friendly. He loves going fast but sheds all over. Buddy sits in the back and I have a dog seat cover but it doesn’t work that well with keeping hair off the carpet. All the seat covers are too long and not made for a narrow coupe so the sides of the cover don’t stand up like they would in a sedan. Instead they droop and lay flat if that makes sense. Also, there are no headrests in the back to strap the seat cover to.

also besides the cover, has anybody done a rear seat delete specifically for a dog? Thanks in advance.

This is the seat cover I have https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BT6714...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Rear seat delete is an interesting idea for this. I'd maybe be worried about some added harshness for him from basically sitting on bare body metal. Unfortunately I don't have much input on the cover, but—assuming you could cozy up the back for him a bit, that might work. Maybe foam beneath the seat delete panel?

My little dog sheds very little but she is welcome in the car anytime.

Great idea- Molded flat topped durable cushioned removable seat filler panel for dogs and their mustangs. Custom designed and to fit, moulded to fill voids created by seat removal. Basically, the back bottom becomes a flat stable surface. Anyone want to let me use their mustang so I can pull the seat out and fill it with spray foam for a mould? What? No takers?

I feel your pain. I commend you for being the kind of dog owner who thinks of this enough to start a thread about it. They're worth it. Maybe a beater 4 door?

Get a polymer rear seat delete, have a perfect 8” hole routed out on each side of the seat delete pan, get two shallow plastic bowls or flower pots of the same diameter (one for each side) and place them in the holes. This will provide for food/water for your dog during long trips if needed (just fill the water bowl half way). As for comfort, go to TJ Maxx and get a dog bed to place back there.

I was thinking a sling would do the job but never thought about the issue with it being so narrow. The rear seats will literally only be used for our Aussie (sheds a ton). The inside of the X is almost all plastic which makes for easy cleanup.

For your existing cover, could you hook some suction cups onto the sides that are falling down and put them on the rear quarter windows? Probably won’t solve your whole problem but it’s something.

Shedding and cleaning the carpet is gonna be what it is either way. Some anti static or maybe a specific brush to pull up hair could be helpful. I would guess that exists somewhere.

I‘ve only had one dog in the car at a time for short trips to the vet, and that works ok in the front seat. My labs are both too big or too antsy for the back seat, and I haven’t risked or needed to take them both somewhere simultaneously; for that we use the SUV. Best of luck.

pumus stone, what women use on feet. it pulls the hair on carpet. Vac in the other hand.
Walmart. and cheap.
I once had a friend make a full back seat panel out of plywood which would go over the rear after the lower seat removed making the whole back flat. Covered it with blanket as needed. Doesn't t help with hair but made a nice platform for a big dog. (Golden Ret.).
I don t have my Mustang yet but I like the full dog cover slings that go up the back seat and up the rear of the drivers/front seats onto the headrests. Most of the time I just put to dog in the wife car, LOL.

The sling seat cover is what I have, and it doesn't work nearly as well as with my old Audi A6. There arent head rests for the back seats so you can't strap it like it's supposed to be. And mustang back seats are a lot more narrow so all the sides droop down and dont catch hair.

I like the idea of the suction cups. The biggest problem is the sling style seat covers have no head rest to strap to in the back of a mustang so I could put suction cups on the rear window to fix this. Then I could suction the quarter windows to pull the seat cover tight so it doesn't droop. Seems easy enough to do.

This could work. I'll have to check the dimensions because if it's made for a standard 3 seat bench then it likely will be too long. This would help with the big hump in the middle of the 2 seats in a mustang.
  • Product Dimensions ‏ : ‎ 22.83 x 48.82 x 2.17 inches; 11.02 Pounds
  • Mustang hip room : 47.7”, but if you had to, perhaps you could shave off 1/2” from each side (at the folding point) of the platform and it should fit like a glove
