Does anyone have the G1W

Just curious if anyone has the G1W dash cam and if so how do you have it mounted and what are your thoughts on it? I've read a few posts on here about dash cams and was looking at purchasing that one, but before I pull the trigger I just want to see what others have to say about it. I've heard a lot of good things regarding it. Thanks.

I have the G1WH, this one sold by Spy Tec via Amazon.

The videos have great definition and look very clear on my 27" monitor. I have it mounted behind the rear view mirror on the passenger side. In this spot I can't really see the display screen, but I almost never look at it anyway, since I only plan on using it in case of an accident. Seems to work very well for the cost.

FYI, I read in some review that Amazon sometimes gets these from different sources, with varying quality. Spy Tec was noted as a good source.

I had the G1WH before, and it's great. But I recommend getting the A118 B40 dashcam. It's sold by various dealers on Amazon, but they're all the same product. It's a lot smaller and it looks very OEM when hardwired.

P.S - always record at the highest quality available, there's no reason not to!

Where did you run the wire? Do you have any pics of it in your car? I was told that I should get the G1W-C because of the capacitor, but wasn't sure why since it plugs into the cigarette lighter. Can you elaborate more if you know the difference between the H and the C? Thanks.

I ran the wire along the headliner and under the door rubber molding and down into the inner fuse box. I think it was fuse 23.

The benefit of having a capacitor as opposed to a battery in the cam is for reliability reasons. The capacitor can handle higher heat, so depending on where you live, you may wanna get the capacitor version. My cam doesn't use a capacitor and I've been fine though (from New England).

It looks a lot cleaner, takes less space, and doesn't take away a cigarette lighter! Plus it's very discrete so people won't notice it until you point it out.

Not splicing per se..but you'll need a 12V to 5V converter and a microfuse add-a-fuse connector if you want to hardwire it.

Amazon has all those parts for cheap.

The H model has a wider view.

I'm using the lighter socket, but with a 12v splitter+USB with a low profile plug. I ran my wires under the headliner, then under the trim, then down the door gasket, then behind the glove compartment. Wires are nearly completely hidden. Camera plugs into the splitter under the passenger dash.

G1WH is the updated model, there is another capacitor based one called G1W-CB (B for black bezel). Advantage to capacitor is if youre in a location with high heat, the battery will degrade over time, capacitor wont. I have three G1WH and one G1WCB running in the family fleet, been happy with them so far. G1W-CB also has updated buttons that have a better feel to them.

You can use Fuse 36 in the passenger footwell for a hardwire fuse that will turn off when the engine is off. I wired my radar and G1W-CB to Fuse 36

I have the Blueskysea Original Quality Real Full HD 1080P 1920x1080 H.264 G1W hard wired in my Accord. I couldn't find the link, it must not be sold on Amazon anymore.

I have a Black Box G1W hard wired with this kit.

They both work great. However I will say it's a good idea to make sure that your old video files are being deleted. I had not checked the video for a while in my honda and wanted to pull something off one day. My card was full of old video and hadn't recorded anything for over a month.

Supposed to yes. In my experience with 2 of them they don't 100% of the time.

if they act up, reflash the firmware. I've had some wonky issues before and reflashing the firmware fixed them
