You really kind of just proved my point... Especially if you have Verizon and unlimited data and apps like Waze... You're already paying the 750 somewhere else... why pay it again for one feature you already have?:headbonk:

. . .

I'm not trying to criticize anyone's preference or decision, but unless you're like the guy who just posted above me who's a techy, live outside the US (idk the economies there), or just unaware of other options, it just seems like buying this feature on any car is just throwing money at stuff just cause you can...
Not everyone has unlimited data on their phones. If I had unlimited data, I would probably not get the nav option as well. But that's not the case.

I also don't like the look of cell phone mounts in cars. To me it looks tacky (again... just my opinion). So right now I have to either hold the phone on my lap or somewhere in the console when using my phone's nav. Which is less than optimal for me.

Solution? Spend the money for the built in Nav.

On my Fusion (which doesn't have Nav), I put my phone in landscape right in front of the gauges. I even put one of those little rubber pads there to keep it from sliding. My phone is currently small enough to fit there without blocking too much info on the gauges, so it works great for me. I can reach my charge cord up to it easily too. Sure not as clean as built-in nav, but better than the window mounted tackiness. I've tried this on some rental cars but they don't always work well, just depends on the gauge design and layout. I kind of wish the nav would display in the 4" screen as well as the large screen or be configurable to do that...maybe that is the case with the Mustang and MFT? I've seen it on some cars (or read about it). I think that's safer to look at the gauge area than to have to look over and down to see the nav...but then again I've never had built-in nav so I cannot compare for sure.

I don't think nav usually uses a lot of data on cell phones...unless you're doing satellite view....but I could be wrong; I use mine all the time and haven't had too much issue with data usage.

I agree. I use Waze AND stream music too and from work every day and have never come close to my monthly 2GB's of mobile data.

I don't buy anything with resale in mind. I get what I want. Everything depreciates and it makes no sense to me to pay 700$ now to get 400$ more later. Id rather invest that and have 1000$ later.

That said, I'm getting nav. I won't use it often but I want it. And thTs reason enough for me. I actually am getting a LE, but had already decided I was getting every option available before I accepted that one. I want this to be the nicest most loaded car I've ever owned.

I won't miss the bliss but I wanted adaptive cruise lol

The first part of the quote about the unlimited data was just me saying that he may as well use the heck out of the data if he has it... Also, in my experience, your phone's navigation doesn't use up a lot of data. But I don't travel a lot so it probably could if you did and used navigation a lot but with 3 gigs i've haven't yet.

The main point he proved was what i was saying about the cost. If you don't have unlimited data, likely you're paying about $450 every 2 years for a phone... so you spent less on the phone... but the phone still has navigation that you've now paid for with your phone. I didn't understand why people pay for a $450 then go and pay for 700 navigation in a car when you already have your phone that can do it...

As you and others have said (in so many words) you're paying for the clean appearance and the integration.

Again, I understand now and more power to you.

Another thing I just thought of...I have run into issues where I'm travelling in the middle of nowhere and couldn't search for a location or if I had to make a detour or wrong turn the map couldn't re-calculate because my cell service is lacking (or slow, 1G, etc.) Especially when doing mountain driving! This would be a nice advantage to built-in nav.

That's exactly it for me. I know you get more features and innovation long term using a phone, but I just want a nice integrated/clean solution.

I do wish there were a super clean way to add a radar detector and have it integrate into the display. That would be pretty cool, vs having something stuck to the dash and cords running. It would be nice to even just have a mini power port up on the top so you could make a simple install. Of course, I'm also a 5-9 over sort of guy, at least when not on the interstate, so I'll likely just go without.

I've always wanted one of these, but they're just so damn expensive...

Not sure why you would say that somebody who's a car enthusiast wouldn't want or need nav. I mean, just today I was in a situation where it would have come in handy (my current Mustang doesn't have it) -- I was going to a party in the opposite end of Brooklyn from my apartment, in a neighborhood I rarely go to. So I was using the nav on my phone -- which is always sort of obnoxious, since you have to mix holding it to see the screen with holding it so it has a clear view of the sky to keep satellite connections through the windows rather than the roof -- when about thirty blocks (1.5 miles) from my destination my phone froze. There's no place to pull over there (one lane, one way streets with cars parked along both sides), so I had to do a hard reset on my phone and then reload the maps app and pull up the party's address all while driving. Not a fun experience.

If you're just using your car for the track, I suppose that's one thing. But for most of us these are daily drivers; they aren't 911 GT3's or anything.
I have a Nokia Lumia 1020 and it sits perfectly between the temperature /fan speed knobs on my 2011. They hold it in place ,as long as i dont play race car around a turn :p

Looks like that won't work on the S550 GT base however. Oh well! That's what the turn by turn voice directions are for.

I dont like nav systems and touch screens. I am terrible at gauging where my hand is going while I'm driving. I always have to look down to make sure I'm hitting the right part of the screen.

Knobs and buttons all the way ! Although the phone pad buttons on the right are kind of useless to me...the only numbers I have memorized are my parents hah.

To me the nav screen is just a distraction..i like just the interior light glow and the light from my headlights and the engine purring :)

I saw that before and :eyebulge:. For $1,999 you'd be better off getting the ticket in most cases.
At least here, tickets for a certain amount over the speed limit can give you an automatic suspension. I got a ticket going 89 in a 55 and it cost me $800 after various fees. Go 105 in a 55 or 80 in a 30 and bye bye license.

I got one of those when I was 18....on a motorcycle....blew right past an undercover Camaro trooper....luckily in Indiana it's just a 6-pointer and I think cost me about $180, of course that was 12 years ago!

Speed limits are merely just suggestions! :D

Did you really say that your phone has to be able to see the sky? WTH are you talking about? GPS works on cell phones in a block dungeon with a cement ceiling...

Only because it reduces down to using either Wifi and/or Cellular Triangulation. If the phone doesn't have good access to the a satellite without either of the other items mentioned, then, well, it's pretty useless. Take a regular GPS from like Garmin down in your basement and see how well it works...

I travel a lot for work and I have never had any issues of that sort using either an iphone5 or galaxy s4 as navigation for travel... On the other hand, my boss has a Nissan Juke with navigation. He used that when traveling down my office and it got him lost because the maps were so out of date and he said he wasn't paying for a subscription to update the maps.
