Do the newest Coyotes have oil consumption issues?

Did you think to try 5w30? This new economy oil is very very thin and it wouldnt hurt to run 5w30. Especially with 156k miles

Yeah - I sure have. I just always look at the 5w-20 on the oil cap and submit.

But what the hell, I gotten my money's worth out of this car, so I'll try 5-30 next oil change. Good idea.

I don't think I've ever checked the oil on any vehicle I've ever owned unless it leaked oil regularly..lol. Now I'm paranoid.

I think I broke mine in properly - I bought it new with 4 miles on the odo and followed the owner's manual recommendations to a T.

You still should. Once a while maybe once a month at least. Same with tire pressure.
Engines sometimes do burn oil and you don't want to wait till it's too late.

Not really. If it's visible then it's burning at an alarming rate. You are gonna be losing 1 qt every 200-300 miles if it's visible.
Most engines within manufactures margin of 1 qt every 1000 miles is not gonna see visible smoke coming out of the exhaust.
Plus catalytic converter really cleans up the exhaust gas.

Brand new, it burned a small amount of oil but not enough where I needed to add oil. First oil change I put in Pennzoil Platinum Ultra and and it hasn't burned any oil, it has about 6k miles on the first oil change. I kept it under 5000 rpm during the first 1000 miles, varying engine speeds then ran it up to redline periodically after that.

Don't baby it but don't abuse it. Somewhere in between is fine. These engines have already been honed to perfection at the factory so breaking should be pretty easy.
With that being said, usually vary throttle and rpm. Allow engine to be loaded up as well as break. Avoid excessive idling. Basically work the rings against the cylinder wall.

I beat the living piss out of my motor at 200 miles. I've burned up almost no oil in 8000 spirited miles including well over 100 autocross runs and a track day.

Pretty much exactly what [MENTION=19308]jasonstang[/MENTION] said. Vary speed as often as you can. Avoid constant speed for long periods (including idle). DO take it to redline every so often. DO go WOT every so often. Don't do either all the time or none of the time. DO decel with engine braking frequently. This would be for about the first 1000-1500 miles.

I switched to synthetic at 3400mi, I'm just under 6k now, mine doesn't burn oil......

I thought the same thing. Also, there are those "high-mileage" oils for older engines, maybe that would help. :shrug:
