Wow, those look really good. I went the easy way and just bought a regular homelink setup.

I initially wanted to do that but couldn't ever find out if it would be a plug and play type deal. What did the visor run you if you don't mind me asking?

He didn't put it in the visor. Where did you get power from or is it battery powered? How much was it if you don't mind me asking.

My guess is you can put it into any place your willing to drill to make a hole for the button. You might consider the visor with homelink already installed. I think that would be your best bet to avoid making any holes in obvious places.

Thanks! Actually just received my car and have decided to copy your set up since it looks so great...two questions: 1)how do you remove the screw covers or whatever they are in the map light housing so you can take the housing down for the install...are they screws with covers or those pop in connectors or something else? 2) where exactly did you find that tiny switch you used...the ones on Amazon would work fine but are much larger and IMO would not look as custom as yours...Radio Shack? Thanks much, very professional and informative post.

1. The map light housing is held in place by clips. Just pull straight down on the housing to remove it.
Fast forward to 1:45

2. As far as the button goes, I got mine from an electronics store local to me in the DFW area. Some here have found them at auto parts stores also. As long as it is an intermittent button it should work fine.

Great info, thanks much for your instant response...Utube video extraordinarily helpful...just ordered LED bulbs from DD for the map and trunk lights...will check out Radio Shack nearby for the smaller momentary switch you used. Just ordered a very tiny garage door opener to gut and place in the map light housing a la your technique.
Any other very useful, simple-install improvement suggestions?

Thanks again!

Hi guys I just wired mine into an accessory power from the fuse box so it's only on while ign or acc is on. Yes, it is directly in the headliner, not the visor. Found it on ebay for maybe $30ish.

No problem. Your garage door opener may differ from mine, so be prepared to play around with the button to figure out what to solder to.

Have fun. Its an easy project!

Being a devotee of "the path of least resistance", I found a miniature (a bit more than 1" square) garage door opener on Amazon, same brand as its large visor-mounting big brother (Linear). Used double sided Velcro to attach it to the lower dash, in front of my right knee. Conveniently located to open the garage door, almost invisible where it is...perfect solution, minimal effort. Now, if I could figure out how to attach a picture to these messages I'll post one...the "insert image" icon requests a URL for my photo...I have no URL, just some JPEG photos on my laptop...I don't get it, and can't find the answer.

You've got to upload your pic to a site like Photobucket first. Then copy the URL from the pic and paste it in here.
