I hate to sound like a dolt, but what exactly is rev matching? I have driven manuals throughout my life including split axles, but nothing modern. I learned in my father's '65 Econoline '3-on-the-tree'. A simple explanation would be appreciated.

Essentially it's just raising the engine RPM during a down shift (before clutch engagement) to create a seamless transition to a lower gear without that immediate grab of the clutch and engine having to engage while they aren't moving at the same speed. Makes it feel a lot smoother and probably helps limit clutch wear, especially when down shifting into a high rpm.

I didn't have it on the 2018 so I got used to doing it manually. It is pretty nice to have it automatic on the 2019+, I'll probably leave it on. The only times it annoys me are when I have basically rolled to a stop and dropped into 1st gear (while stationary) it'll sometimes rev match for 1st gear and I'll look retarded.

It's an automatic heel/toe blip of the throttle on downshifts for those that can't do it naturally. It was so annoying to me on the SS 1LE I test drove, that I finally pulled over and read the owner's manual to figure out how to turn it off. Nothing like stopping at a stop light and hearing your engine rev for no good reason other than to get annoying looks from other drivers.

I like to heel-toe, and have for a long time, but I have left this feature on. I just like it. I did, however, turn off the hill assist. I hated that. Only ever stalled the car once, and that was on a not very steep will w/ hill assist on. No issues at all since I turned it off.

Thanks guys. You're never too old to learn. And I'm sure I wasn't the only one that didn't know. It sounds like a feature I might like if I had it.

I love the rev match feature. I was doing the heel toe thing in my last car because I love the sound doing the 4-2 thing on decel. Now I can be lazy and let the car do it for me. Whats your speed for going into first gear before a stoplight? At like 5 mph it only revs a tiny bit and under that speed nothing at all. Do you guys have custom exhaust? That could also be a reason for unwanted rev matching attention I guess.

Probably around 5mph, rolling to a stop and getting it into first gear (holding clutch down) so I can quickly get moving again through a stop sign. With active exhaust on track it's definitely not quiet, it makes it look like you're revving the engine for no reason other than to be a tool.

It'd be nice if it was disabled for first gear, but...

One point I can give for the Camaro is that they have tactile switches behind the steering wheel (similar to a paddle shifter) to immediately enable or disable rev match. Would have been great to have in the Mustang.

Interesting...I'm about to go Roush axlebacks to match the X pipe too. Something to consider, thank you.

I don't understand why it would ever rev match below 15-20 mph. There is never a reason to downshift into first unless you are basically coming to a stop, so no rev matching ever needed there. I guess I just don't see the point with the way it's programmed. I've never driven a Mustang with the feature on, but the Camaro was really annoying rev matching at such low speeds where it was just retarded.

With the pedal setup on the Mustang, it's more of an ankle roll than heel/toe. And, I have to admit, with the touchy Brembos on the performance pack cars, it takes a little practice. But, when you nail it just right and get pretty consistent in the application, it's just a real joy to do it the old fashioned way (and only when you really want/need to).

I think the rev matching downshift, rev hang upshift, and auto throttle from a dead stop in 1st are all there so a new driver can still drive this beast without too much trouble. Going from these features to a car without them nets you many stalls and jerky shifts I'm sure.

The hill stop thing...is the issue others are having is it sticking when it should release? I never even though of turning it off, I'll be doing that during my next break at work lol.

With my 2018, my experience with hill assist is that it would hold the brakes as you were applying throttle so you had to overcome the force of the brake PLUS accelerate uphill. It sucked and I stalled a few times with that and turned it off after the first weekend.

It doesn't seem anywhere near that bad on the new car, but I still disabled it.

I find for single gear downshifts, the twin disc is so much smoother that you don't really have to blip at all. Anyone else notice this?

Any two gear jumps, 4-2,5-3, need a blip though. I for one have a harder time rolling my ankle now with a bit of age. Would be kind of nice to figure out if the 2019 feature could be added to my 2018. Still, no one seems to have figured it out.
